Tis the Season to Eat Healthy Dessert

Untitled2

Just last week was National Dessert Day – better to celebrate late than never with this dessert idea from Jessi Thome, a student majoring in dietetics at the University of Minnesota.

I am not afraid to admit that I have a huge sweet tooth. Eating sweet food is not the end of the world. In fact it is important to fix that craving you sometimes have, just as long as it is in moderation! If there is anything I have learned about eating healthy it is that everything is ok once in a while and in moderation! The great thing about peaches are they are naturally sweet and low in calories (100g just provide 39 calories), and contain no saturated fats. This is an easy to make dessert that can cure that sweet tooth without going overboard!

Ingredients:

  • 3 peaches
  • 3 teaspoon butterUntitled
  • 6 teaspoon brown sugar
  • Cinnamon

Steps:

  • Slice peaches in half
  • Remove pit
  • Place in baking dish
  • In the hollow of each peach half, add ½ teaspoon of butter & 1 teaspoon of brown sugar
  • Sprinkle cinnamon on top of peaches
  • Place in oven for 30 minutes or until soft and tender
  • Take out and eat warm!   *Serves 6
