Tips to Simplify and Destress

Earlier this week I talked about how removing clutter and taking a look at your core beliefs can help you simplify your life. Here are my final 3 tips on how to de stress and simplify.

1.  I never accomplish my to-do list.

Strategy: Ask yourself: Do I prioritize my schedule or schedule my priorities?

Break your life down into three areas: personal, home and work. Create one goal for each area for each season of the year.  Most people have unreasonable to do lists that are laden with guilt. Remember if something is on your list for more than a year it is a “dead” goal and those are no fun.

2.  You feel people are always demanding your time.

Strategy: Think boundaries. It is ok to say “No” which, by the way, is a complete sentence. If their request makes you feel a sense of duty or obligation or guilt it is probably a “should.” Say “no” to shoulds and say yes to wants – which are like your favorite food craving or something you really want to do. Write the word no three times on a piece of paper and post it by your phone. Studies say we need to say no three times before people hear it.

3. You snap at people you live with or love.

Strategy:  Often times we are frustrated because we run out of time.  There are two kinds of people, time rich people and time poor people. Both can have giant to do lists. But time rich people have short list….their values. Your values act as a filter and help you make decisions on what is truly important to you. If your number one value is family and you are working 60 hours a week is it any wonder you are unhappy and frustrated?  Don’t know your values? I created a Values Card deck to help you identify them and get your time back.

Now is the perfect time to get your life back!

  1. Love this post. Today I had the afternoon off; the house was a mess, I needed to do laundry and pack for our weekend trip, but it was a HOT day and I took my youngest niece and nephew to the pool instead. It’s all about values. The mess will be there and they grow up to soon. We had a great time.
