Your New Yours Intentions
Every January you promise yourself to make this year better than the last. But you just get too busy to “stick” to your resolutions. Being busy can make you feel important, even indispensable. But has it gotten you the “more happy and healthy” life you so covet?
Maybe your resolutions are the wrong ones in the first place. Follow these tips I have used with coaching clients to accomplish the joyful balance and calm confidence you desire this year.
Dump the word resolution
First off, get rid of the nasty word resolution. Can you really even remember one resolution you have kept your entire life? I can’t! I really can’t and I am old! Compare these two words.
Resolution – the act of resolving
Intention – determine your purpose or attitude or your course of action.
Resolutions feel like you are working on something that is broken. Resolutions feel like you are working on something that needs to be fixed as you look back. Looking back usually brings negative pessimistic feelings with it. Feels like a should. Intentions move forward with a more positive feeling and a focus on what you desire. Life is moving forward and there is no reason to dwell in yesterday. Today is the day you can create the changes you desire. Right!
Decide on believable intentions that are aligned with your values
You can create what you want and when you want it; but make it realistic and believable.
Ask yourself what do I really really want? Listen to your heart.
An example of Linda’s wants:
- I want to sleep 7 “good hours”
- I want to do yoga 3 times each week
- I want to have time with my girls 2 times each week
- I want to date my bridegroom 2 times each month
Her values are family, creativity and personal growth
Her wants are believable. With her 55+ hour a week management job it would be unrealistic to say she would have a date with her husband each week. Wants are joys, desires or craving – like you just gotta have them. Don’t waste your life going after goals that are not important to you.
Focus on what you want to BECOME not OVERCOME
Use the law of attraction to get what you want this year. Remember what you focus on gets bigger and bolder. Use your energy to focus on what you want to create instead of spending time energy and worry on what you don’t like about your life. Example – “I don’t like what I weigh!” So what. How many people really really love their weight? Two. Focus on what you want. Act like what you want to weigh not what you weigh today. Does a 150 pound person eat like a 120 pound person? Not in my 30-year dietetic career. Does a 200 pound person move their body like a 150 pound person? The way or “weigh” to predict your future is to create it. Create your life with your deepest joys, your intentions and the real you. If not this year..when? When will be the time for you to fall in love with your life? Remember every day is a new start… a new life.

Wishing you the most intentional year of your life!
Love,
