Wake up your taste buds and health with turmeric

If you want to wake up your taste buds, and invest in your health spice up your meals with turmeric.  Tumeric is the spice that gives curry and Far Eastern foods its strong distinctive flavor and imparts a gorgoues bright rich yellow orange color.

Tumeric contains the flavonoid curcumin which has anti-inflammatory properties.  Tumeric is the main spice in Ayurvedic cooking which recognizes it as a heating spice.

Animal and laboratory studies have found that curcumin, an antioxidant that is an active ingredient in turmeric, demonstrates some anticancer effects. Antioxidants are compounds that can protect the body’s cells from damage caused by activated oxygen molecules known as free radicals. Laboratory studies have also shown that curcumin interferes with several important molecular pathways involved in cancer development, growth, and spread.

Research has shown many types of cancer cells are inhibited by curcumin in the laboratory, and in some animal studies, curcumin slowed the spread of certain cancers.. However, clinical research is still needed to determine curcumin’s role in cancer prevention and treatment in humans. In the meantime I plan on serving this tasty anti-oxidant to my family once a week!
