Sohailla’s Spice Rubbed Salmon on the Grill
This month I want to highlight Sohailla Digsby, RDN, LD Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, Fitness Pro, Author of three books and a National Speaker who helps you with practical ideas and tips for effortless health.
Sohailla loves this Spice-Rubbed Salmon recipe because it is a unique flavor that doesn’t have a fishy odor or taste, and frankly because it’s one of the few ways she can get her husband to eat salmon…one of the super-foods of all time. Yay Sohailla!
Sohailla has a food-first philosophy: whenever we can choose wholesome foods we enjoy rather than supplements and powders, we should!
Who is Sohailla Digsby RDN, LD?
She is a mom of 2 boisterous biological boys (14 and 12), and one determined diva they adopted from China (8). She is a devoted wife to the fella that asked her to the Senior Prom: She said no to Prom, but married him 5 years later (just over 20 years ago now).
What is your empowering belief that gets you back in motion again?
I tend to be all-in and have many varied interests and a voracious lust for life. This is a blessing and a challenge. I’m constantly reminding myself, “Sohailla, you can’t do everything, so do what God has given you a passion for in this season with all your heart, all the while prioritizing relationships.”
What did you have to let go of or accomplish to get you to where you are today?
To get where I am today as an author, speaker and entrepreneur, I’ve had to give up perfectionism (again and again), trying to please everyone, and scarcity thinking.
What is your typical day like?
Up early with 3 kiddos – I make their lunches and get them off to school. Then I start a load of laundry and tidy up the kitchen while listening to scripture on my Bible app. Have some quiet thinking, reading and prayer time, and then tackle my work day from my home office followed by a mid-morning workout, shower and lunch. Back to work until kids are out of school…then mommy life: family meal, extra curriculars, homework, reading time with kids, tuck-ins, chores…time with the hubby and…a later-than-ideal bedtime ;).
Why did you become a registered dietitian?
I loved fitness and healthy food and wanted to figure out how to master caloric balance. Turns out that required much deeper digging into my value system than I imagined. I have learned more about balanced living instead of balancing the dieting act, and am all about the big picture of wellness.
When her daughter was 3 she announced that she knew what Sohailla was going to be when she “gets big” (once she was finally given a turn after impatiently trying not to interrupt her and a friend). As big as she ever wants to be, Sohailla asked, “What’s that?” “A talker!” she said. Clever stinker!
Turns out Sohailla does “talk” for a living…sharing words on the pages of the three books she has authored, at keynote speaking engagements around the country, in blog posts, on Facebook wellness and weight management membership groups, in trainings for her Best Body Countdown Facilitators, and in coaching aspiring Registered Dietitian authors to self-publish.
Sohailla has been on a mission to empower people to create their best bodies ever! She has many ideas and tools for you! She has learned a lot about food and fitness as well as being an entrepreneur, author and speaker.
