5 Tips for Strong Relationships

  1. Focus on what is right not wrong. Give compliments and kudos for the everyday small stuff.
  2. Give what they need instead of you think they need. Don’t know? Ask what would make you feel most appreciated and loved today?
  3. Focus on what is strong instead of what is wrong. Focus on strengths instead of weaknesses and you will grow my strengths.
  4. Listen 80% of the time and speak 20% of the time. And listen without judgment and with respectful understanding.
  5. Limit BMW (bitch, moan and whine) time and focus on what is best about them and their day.
(I ask Gary this every single night at dinner and his answer is the same…always about one of his work outs!)

Who is Tasting Life?

"The BEST life balance… my focus on living in the present empowered me to ask my employer to work from home 1 day a week. I love it!"

"Chere you are the type of person you feel fortunate to cross paths with. You have helped me with your energy, passion and compassion that has helped me live a fuller life focused on the present. You have helped me identify my gifts, true needs, and values which I am using to make decisions for purposeful, choice-driven living in the present. I’ve incorporated my new daily habits into my life that I ensure I take care of myself in a way that aligns with my true needs and values."

A Letter to My Daughter on the Eve of Her Wedding Day

Dear Danielle,
I write this to you on the eve of your wedding day. Many nights when I tucked you in bed at night, I would picture your wedding day. It is here. In only five days you will become Mrs. David Schurter. Dad and I have been married 31 years and while we have had our highs and lows, I truly feel my heart and soul loves your dad more than the day I walked down the aisle on Jan 2, 1982. I wanted to share some advice on what makes our marriage happy.

May 1 – 2, 2013 Midwest Dairy Dairy Nutrition Communicator Real Dairy Symposium, Kansas City, KS

Chris and his mom Cindy gave us a tour of their Heins Family Farm in Higginsville, MO. Their values of faith, family and farm came alive. We witnessed their stewardship of their land, how they reduced their carbon foot print and genuine care of their animals. Chris called his calfs his “girls.” This calf (above) was 41 minutes old!

Registered Dietitians from seven states gathered together to learn ways to advocate dairy’s place in our diet. Teamwork was needed when we created a dinner at the Culinary Center of Kansas City.

Where is Chere savoring life?

Savoring is a quality that happy people naturally have in abundance.

Savoring = to mindfully engage in thoughts or behaviors that heighten the effect of positive events on positive feelings. There are 3 temporal forms of Savoring: (1) Anticipatory (2) In the Moment and (3) Reminiscent. We can savor a positive event before it happens by getting excited in preparation for it, we can savor the positive event as it occurs and we can savor a positive event by remembering it. What are you savoring today?

ONE of the top five days of my life Danielle married David Schurter on May 18, 2013 at the Enchanted Barn. They had a small intimate wedding with their closest friends and family members. Everyone mentioned the barn vibrated with their love. The morning was dark, gloomy and pouring rain. And, just and as they were getting ready to take their pictures, as David said, the clouds opened up, the sun shined through, the birds chirped and it was the most perfect day! My nephews rated the wedding as a 100 on a scale of 1 to 100.

Their photographer Dani Stephenson
captured the day.

David’s nieces and nephews stole the show. Sam and Abbey Schurter Eli Schurter and Lydia Vargo

I fell in love with Gary that day. I could feel his emotions as he walked Danielle up the aisle. He held her close and became teary eyed before he gave her to David. His toast was the best father of the bride toast ever and had many in tears. The song Daddy Dance with Me he picked for the Father of the bride and bride dance showed their special relationship.

Relationships oxygenate life! Their University of Wisconsin friends are truly supportive, high energy and FUN! They are forever friends!

Our new family.

Danielle is lucky to marry into such a warm, caring “all about family” Schurter family.
