5 Ways to Simplify Your Life and Actions to Take

Are you overscheduled, overtired and overeating? Racing around hurrying and worrying? Spring is the perfect time to press the refresh button and simply your life.

  1. Determine your values and live them out. When you are clear what matters most to you, you can dump the stuff that doesn’t fit. Buy the value card deck to figure it out.
  2. Declutter. Cluttered space is a cluttered mind. Set your timer for 10 minutes every day and get rid of the junk.
  3. Practice self care. Vow that you are worth 10 minutes of self-care every day. If you don’t take care of your body, where will you live?
  4. Dump your shoulds. Be aware of when you say “should” and notice if you think of it as a duty or obligation. How can you change it into a want, delegate it or dump it completely?
  5. Create priorities. Create two goals for each area of life that you want to accomplish before Labor Day. Career, Family and home life, health and well- being, &  spirituality.

I will hold fond memories of the many special Registered Dietitians I met in Oklahoma, especially Melody, who came up to me after the talk and said her life was changed. How honored am I. Annie Maruska RD volunteered to pick me up at the Oklahoma City Airport for my presentation to the Oklahoma Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and offered to take me out to eat. I suggested a hamburger place. She took me to a local favorite hamburger joint called Irma’s. I asked Annie why she didn’t need to look at the menu. She said, “I’m a vegetarian and there is one thing I can eat on the menu – a black bean burger.” Wow! I was treated with amazing hospitality in Oklahoma City and can’t wait to get back there when the tulips don’t have icicles on them.

Where is Chere savoring life?

Savoring is a quality that happy people naturally have in abundance.

Savoring = to mindfully engage in thoughts or behaviors that heighten the effect of positive events on positive feelings. There are 3 temporal forms of Savoring: (1) Anticipatory (2) In the Moment and (3) Reminiscent. We can savor a positive event before it happens by getting excited in preparation for it, we can savor the positive event as it occurs and we can savor a positive event by remembering it. What are you savoring today?

The Silhoutte Fashion Show at UW Stout was the grand finale for Katrina’s Gasser’s four remarkable years of becoming an apparel textile and design designer. She had many requests after the show for her Bahama Breeze line. To top it off, she already has a job in Minneapolis starting in June. Proud of you Katrina!

If you need your leather furniture restored in Mpls, Ted Barac is the man to call. He loves bringing things back to life and doesn’t like people throwing things away. His past life he was a chef. And, once a chef always a chef. Both visits I received great cooking and farmer’s market tips from him. We share the same values and he over-exceeded my expectations.


What a surprise! My dinner club threw Danielle a Skype bridal shower. They gave her dishes that she loved and they gave me many presents too. What a night to remember!
