Chere’s note: When you focus on abundance you get more abundance! Remember, you can do anything not everything! But it starts with liking who you are!

“Chere, What goes wrong when the stress hits you? Is your house disorganized? Do you do anything weird? JUST ONCE I’D LIKE TO HEAR YOU SAY YOU ATE A BIG BAG OF CHOCOLATE!!!! Do it for ? I’m KIDDING. Not!” —T

Chere’s note: I love chocolate. My fav chocolate treat is 8 dark Bliss or 8 dark Doves and π cup real whipped cream. Melt and dip strawberries in. Seriously when I am stressed do you think I would take the time to make this chocolate fondue? Heck no. My ”sin food” is a box of Good and Plenty — the whole box in one day — and it used to be Mr. G’s Potato Chips that are only available in Milwaukee.

“Chere, I was pulled over the Stearns County Sheriff’s Deputy on my way home from work. It seems that I didn’t move to the lane furthest away from his squad car, which was on the side of the highway with its lights flashing. He was very polite and then gave me a ticket. It’s a good thing I don’t have stress anywhere else in my life, or this would have shook me up a bit. Anyway consider yourself informed.” —S

Chere’s note: Boy the flashing lights of a cop car get my heart beating. Congratulations for not getting stressed out about this ticket. You picked the right words S. Your life is just your thoughts that create your emotions and then your behavior. You get to pick your words and thoughts and decide if you want to be happy or stressed out.

Are you missing the Olympics as much as we are? Gary loves the Olympics so much that in June he went to watch the Olympic Swim Trials in Omaha, Nebraska. We couldn’t get enough of them and watched them in Minneapolis, Madeline Island, and Rhinelander, Wisconsin. I loved watching their incredible athletic ability and how they pushed their bodies to the limit. Maybe they motivated you like they did me. Watching them motivated me to swim longer, paddle my kayak farther and ride my bike faster.

The Olympics are over now. How can I wait four years to be motivated again? I have thought and thought about this, and the answer I realized sits next to me at dinner every evening. Gary!! I don’t know of a person that accomplishes more in one day than him. He works, fits in healthy eating and exercise, does lots around the house and always has time for friends and to unwind. Gary maximizes his energy. As a Wellcoach® the chief complaint I hear from clients is, “I don’t have enough time.” I say dump the “time theory” and focus on energy. The most productive, happiest and healthiest people I know manage their energy.

Energy, not time, is your most precious resource. You have twenty four hours in a day. Your amount of time is fixed. Your amount of energy IS NOT FIXED.

Gary’s number one value is being a good dad. Was fun to have to both kids attend Big Ten Universities, Danielle at Madison and Brett at Iowa

The foundation of a purpose-filled life is energy. Habits, good or helpful, bad or hurtful, are all an investment in your energy. Negative habits block, distort, waste, deplete and contaminate stored energy. People who accomplish a lot and are productive have specific habits which optimize their energy.

The Cucumber Salad from the 5 Ingredients for Healthy Living Cookbook was lovingly prepared by Juliet my niece for the Bork Family Weekend. This salad is real food real fast and just perfect for a busy fun weekend. It is also a great salad to eat pre-dinner to fill you up with some fiber and take the edge off your hunger. Juliet wanted a sweeter taste than what the recipe calls for. Your taste buds can decide.

1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup water
1/4 tsp stevia or to taste
1/2 tsp dill weed
1 small onion, thinly sliced
2 medium cucumbers, peeled and thinly sliced
1/4 tsp salt
1/8 tsp. pepper

Combine all ingredients in medium bowl and stir to blend. Refrigerate 1 to 2 hours before serving. Makes six half cup servings.

Nutrition Per Serving: 14 calories; 0.5 gm protein; 0.1 gm Fat; 2.9 gm Carbohydrate; 101 mg Sodium

The neighbors and I are continuing to enjoy our CSA veggie life. This is week 11 of 18 weeks. My sister Laurie and I have the perfect little cookbook with thirty five ingredient veggie recipes. Where is Chere savoring life?

Savoring is a quality that happy people naturally have in abundance.

Savoring = to mindfully engage in thoughts or behaviors that heighten the effect of positive events on positive feelings. There are 3 temporal forms of Savoring: (1) Anticipatory (2) In the Moment and (3) Reminiscent. We can savor a positive event before it happens by getting excited in preparation for it, we can savor the positive event as it event as it occurs and we can savor a positive event by remembering it. What are you savoring today?

Brett, Gary, Dave, Dani and I celebrated Gary’s 60th birthday weekend on his brother’s charming cabin in Rhinelander, WI. We did not even mind that we didn’t get in the water. Families are for eating and talking aren’t they!

Daniel, Michele and Stevie Ray came for their annual summer visit. This year they learned how to surf at the Edina Aquatic Center and Tim Thoma taught them how to water ski. On a scale of 1 to 10 they said their vacation was a 25! Gotta love that!
