What do you feel you have achieved since our coaching relationship began? And how has your perspective changed?
I have achieved a greater respect for the coaching process. My perspective has changed in that I know I can’t do this start-up alone. Also, I may want to check out coaching as a service of my business. I’ve also secured 2 paid speaking engagements since our coaching.

On a scale of 1-10 (1 being minimal and 10 being excellent) How well were you supported by me?

a. 50 Bazillion- Empathy and understanding
b. 10- trillion- - Getting to the root cause of the problem
c. 10 Gazillion- Asking questions that make you think
d. 10 million- - Stretching you; helping you to think bigger about yourself
e. 10 Bazillion- Coming up with better ideas/solutions than you would have on your own
f.  9 Trillion - Sharing of resources and contacts
g. 10 Bazillion- Between calls back-up
h. 10 Gazillion- Inspiration

What will you take from your coaching that will help you to achieve them? (e.g. new habits, renewed focus)
The biggest thing I take from you is that I am enough just as I am. And the desire to become a better listener myself.

Chere’s note: Deb and I coached for only 3 months. She got her speaking career fired up, takes time for daily self-care, identified her personal needs and knows how to communicate to others to get them met. She is excited for her next chapter and is more content and happy.

“I needed a time out. I couldn’t keep up. I was working every night until midnight. I took off Friday and didn’t even turn on the email stream until Monday.” Are you a victim of the time police?

Dawna Markova writes in “I Will Die an Unlived Life,"

“I am stunned to discover now that I have been sitting in front of the west window doing nothing for forty five minutes. How long has it been since I really did absolutely nothing for three quarters of an hour? I looked around as if waiting for the Time Police to arrest me for being non-productive. All I have done is step into the darkness inside myself, into the silence, where I know the world is made of.”

It certainly takes courage to stop the chaos and focus on yourself. If you have too many commitments, you can’t possibly have energy or time for self- care. I used to have too many flower gardens. I got excited by buying the plants but ended up never having enough time to weed the flower gardens. When I lived in Eau Claire, Wisconsin I created several rock gardens. When my dad came to visit we would scour the countryside looking for the most perfect rocks and he would lug them back to the car. Eventually, when I looked at these rock gardens I saw work, effort and a feeling of overwhelm. I had more on my plate than I could take care of. I slowly let the gardens go. I never had the heart to tell my dad that I was tired of the rock gardens. Life can be the same way. Overplanting, over-planning, over-committing and not having the time for self-care. Summer is the perfect time to get your time back. How do you do that?

“We had a Chere week...we took your cookbook and made 11 recipes from it. It was a huge hit. We loved the roasted asparagus salad and have made it 3 or 4 times.”- S

This recipe is super yummy and super easy. It can turn your “ I don’t like asparagus” family members into “Can you make that asparagus salad again please?”

  • 24 thin asparagus spears, tough ends removed
  • 3 Tbsp. olive oil, divided
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 10 oz. salad greens
  • 1 apple, cored and diced

Preheat oven to 400F. Arrange asparagus in a single layer on a large baking sheet and drizzle 1 teaspoon olive oil. Sprinkle with 1/8 teaspoon salt and pepper and toss evenly to coat. Roast 20 minutes, turning once. Meanwhile whisk remaining olive oil with vinegar, salt and pepper in a large bowl. Add salad greens and apple and toss to evenly coat. Mound greens on a serving platter and top with roasted asparagus. Adjust seasonings to taste. Makes four servings.

This dressing is fabulous on any grilled or steamed veggie. If you don’t love veggies pretend they are just like a salad and add your favorite salad dressing.

Where is Chere savoring life?

Savoring is a quality that happy people naturally have in abundance.

Savoring = to mindfully engage in thoughts or behaviors that heighten the effect of positive events on positive feelings. There are 3 temporal forms of Savoring: (1) Anticipatory (2) In the Moment and (3) Reminiscent. We can savor a positive event before it happens by getting excited in preparation for it, we can savor the positive event as it event as it occurs and we can savor a positive event by remembering it. What are you savoring today?

Dad loved celebrating his 83rd birthday at El Beso in Milwaukee. Every year for his birthday mom would cook him tacos, and this was the first time he ate in a Mexican restaurant. About time!
