CrockPot: You can make everything in your crockpot – soups, beans, roasts and whole chickens, beans and desserts. Maybe this year you need a new red one. Make sure your liner comes out so you can clean it easily.

Rice Cooker: No time to be healthy? Buy a rice cooker that cooks your whole grains. It takes 25 mins to make 4 to 5 cups of brown rice. Plus you can use like a crock pot to make casseroles and soups. I especially love it for Minnesota wild rice for the Wild Rice with Cherries recipe in our 5 Ingredients for Healthy Living Cookbook. Gift idea- a multi use rice cooker, 5 Ingredients for Healthy Living Cookbook and a pound of wild rice.

Pop Corn Popper: My personal fav is the Minnesota made Nordic Ware microwave popcorn popper. If you reside in the Minneapolis area, go and check out their store in St. Louis Park. Popcorn is a great alternative to snack mixes or potato chips. And, microwave popcorn has ONE ingredient –popcorn so you really limit the chemicals from the microwaved packaged ones. Gift idea – popcorn popper and organic popcorn from the food coop.

Yogurt Maker: An easy fun way to meet your calcium requirements. Kids need 3 servings of dairy a day and when they help create their food they eat their food. Gift idea – yogurt maker and Yogourmet Freeze Dried Yogurt Starter Kit, (available on Amazon and at health food stores) and toppings like cinnamon, vanilla, walnuts and your fav fruits.

Panini Maker: You can have fun while you make fun sandwiches. You also can grill veggies and fruit. My fav is grilled pineapple served with a flavored Greek yogurt. Gift idea – Panini Maker, Fresh Pineapple and Greek Yogurt

5 Ingredients for Healthy Living Cookbook: Fill a pretty reusable grocery bag (my favs are at Trader Joe’s) with ingredients (they are all five real food ingredients) for two recipes and tuck in the cookbook.

What brought you to coaching?
I need to continue to have quality relationships with my family and friends and have a balance of the things that I love to do and the things that I have to do. I need to stop worrying so much and trust in my own abilities. I need to concentrate on balancing my life and take actions instead of just talking about it. I want to work less for income and more for happiness. Spend more time with family and less time with coworkers.

What do you consider your wins?
-Lifestyle wins – Finding time for me.
-Health wins – Giving myself time to relax and am vowing to walk more and eat better.
-Emotional and Relationship wins – Realizing that I have fundamental core values and working in an environment that does not fit those values is an issue. Realizing that there are people and relationships in my life that are valued and some that suck time and energy and are not helping me grow and be happy.
-Career wins - Making a change to work for something that I love and trusting that the money will come with the passion to succeed instead of working for a paycheck

Chere I needed your help to focus and to get a roadmap back to my authentic self and that has been accomplished. I am leaving my crazy job and starting at a smaller firm which will help me focus my time and energy on the people and things that are important to me. I thank you for your gifts. I will recommend you to others who are seeking to focus, prioritize and get a positive vibe back into their life.

Chere’s note: “J” came to me overcommitted to everyone, frenzied and out of time. She wanted to simplify her life and she did. In only seven hours of coaching, we determined her personal needs which drive her, her values, how to prioritize the hats she wore, a recipe for her ideal day, a list of energy investments and expenditures and we used the law of attraction to attract what she wanted in her life including her new job.

Quit waiting to be happy and healthy and call me today 952 937 5697 to set up your 30 min energy coaching session before the busy holidays. Maybe the BEST gift you can give yourself.

It’s true. I now personally know one of the key secrets to being happy…it is focusing on what you have instead of what you don’t have. I have been celebrating Thanksgiving, the “Gratitude holiday,” early. Two weeks ago I received my second multifocal lenses implant in my left eye. Talk about gratitude. Now, I see the birds in the trees (I think I can even see their eyes.) Last night in church I could actually see people’s faces across the church. Even the couple that always holds hands. I still get excited I can see the screens on my windows. I rarely drive without tearing up as I see abundance around me.

Gratitude is defined as “wanting what you have.” Many studies show that people who practice grateful thinking are happier than those who don’t. My favorite gratitude study was done by Robert Emmons. He had three groups of people who kept journals. Group one wrote five things that occurred in the past week that they were grateful for (called the gratitude condition). The second group wrote five daily hassles (called the hassles condition). The third group wrote five events that occurred in the last week neither positive nor negative (called the events condition). At the conclusion of ten weeks, the people in the gratitude condition physically felt better with less symptoms of physical illness, fewer health complaints; they slept better and even exercised more.

Gratitude Journal

About ten years ago I started a Gratitude Journal. I either start my day or end my day with writing a few things I am grateful for. I find myself looking for things to be grateful for….which I liken to looking for rainbows. Unless you are looking up for rainbows you may miss them. Plus when I look up it reminds me to say “Thank you God!”

Picture Gratitudes

Besides writing gratitudes I take picture gratitudes. I have had the same mailman since I moved into my home twenty four years ago. About ten years ago he came to my door to deliver a package. I told him I appreciated what he did for me and I didn’t even know his name. He got a big smile and said, “My name is Dale and it rhymes with mail.” Of course I told him. I asked him if I could take a picture of him. He asked for what? I said for my gratitude book. I gave him the extra copy and we have been even better friends since. If you really want a gratitude high, take pictures for years and years, write the date and their name on the back and go through them once in a while.

Dale, rhymes with mail.

Daily practice

Your habits create your life. One of the best ways to grow your gratitude is to remind yourself of the special gifts in your life, including your own strengths, your accomplishments, and people, situations and things you appreciate in your life. This can change your life as you will no longer miss the beauty around you and you will no longer notice what is missing in your life. Thankfully, your brain can only focus on what thing at a time. Do you want to focus on lack or abundance? (There is a correct answer!)

Many of you know I love to celebrate birthdays and everything about them. I love to say thank you for being born and encourage my clients to do the same.

Kathy, my coaching client writes, “I took your advice and told my husband that I was very happy that he had been born and it opened up an amazing discussion. We didn’t eat dinner until 10 pm because we didn’t want to stop talking. I think we have a great relationship, but just telling him that one thing made it even better. It was a conversation that helped us understand each other better. It also cleared up some assumptions on my part. I thought he would resent the money spent coaching with you, but in actuality, he said he sees a difference in my attitude and actions and is very happy I found you. I just had to share! “ K

Most people are grateful because they’re happy. Insightful people are happy because they're grateful. Better get busy if being happy is as easy seeing what is good and beautiful in your world.

My nephew Tyler cooked this 5 ingredient recipe by himself. I think he enjoyed this the most.

Tyler sauteed the garlic and then added the brussels sprouts.

Where is Chere savoring life?

Savoring is a quality that happy people naturally have in abundance.

Savoring = to mindfully engage in thoughts or behaviors that heighten the effect of positive events on positive feelings. There are 3 temporal forms of Savoring: (1) Anticipatory (2) In the Moment and (3) Reminiscent. We can savor a positive event before it happens by getting excited in preparation for it, we can savor the positive event as it event as it occurs and we can savor a positive event by remembering it. What are you savoring today?

I finally met the famous Marjorie Johnson who has won a bgillion blue ribbons at the Minnesota State Fair and is the author of Blue Ribbon Baking with Marjorie.

Marjorie's 4'8" is filled with spunk and fun…she was even MORE fun in person than when I watch her on the Jay Leno show.

No food tastes as good as being with your mom on her birthday, especially her birthdays over 80. What did she want for her birthday? For the whole family to attend mass together and go out to eat. She made sure I sat next to her for both as I am the only kid is who lives away from her.

Mom and her 5 kids Cheryl, Laurel, Michele, Michael and Rachele (notice the rhyme here?) at the official Meyer House birthday picture taking spot…the kitchen table of course!
