  3. Write them down.
  4. Post on your bathroom mirror.
  5. Every morning, read them when you are brushing your teeth.

Who do I appreciate today? Why?

Since 1999 I have had a hard time describing what transpires during a coaching session. Coaching is an experiential process as well as an intellectual one. Talking about coaching isn't the same thing as being coached. Click here or call me at 952.937.5697 to reserve your complimentary, no obligation, 30-minute Coaching Session. If you are ready to take action towards obtaining the life you really want this is your first step.

Experience coaching first hand and create an action plan that will help you move forward with your goals and dreams. I guarantee one tip, tool, question or strategy that will give you more energy, balance, focus, happiness or health.

“Chere, I wanted to tell you that I admire you greatly for the gifts you have. There is something that is so profound about you. I think I’ve seen you in person like once in my life (well…maybe twice…did we bump into each other somewhere??). Anyway, you have this way of letting people feel close to you, but you have such strong boundaries. I think I have good boundaries, but I wonder if people feel all fuzzy/happy when they think about me/talk to me like I do when I get to be in your space. I always do whatever I can to make people feel important and you are a pro at that!!! I thought about all this yesterday. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this sometime. I’m so grateful you are in my life. I love learning from you. You are such a great example to me.”
—Crista, http://www.cristamk.com

“We never know how much time we have here and it’s easy to get caught up in trivial things, thinking there’ll always be more time. But you are a shining example of how to live life fully everyday, Chere. You’re my hero!”
—Ginny, www.coachginny.com

Tyler came to coaching because he wanted to spend less time worrying and more time enjoying the now instead of “my life will begin when I get a better job” or I have this or I look like that. We discovered his personal needs were to give, be creative, be free and accomplish. So, we could see why he was waiting to be happy. He was giving to everyone but himself and always trying to accomplish, accomplish, accomplish. At the end of our coaching relationship, I will never forget when Tyler said, “Doing nothing is doing something!” Tyler has forever put a smile on my heart!

What do you consider your wins?

Lifestyle wins
Being ok with where things are, not always needing change, trying to see the best in every situation, not overextending myself, making time for myself, learning to say no and not over giving

Health wins
Overall sense of satisfaction = healthy person!

Emotional and Relationship wins
Greater sense of trusting my instincts and better skill set at evaluating relationships/things

Career wins
Being content with what I have, making the most of it, not letting it get to me

Initially, I think I wanted to change my career to something I loved doing. And this changed while we worked together because of the economy and my general sense of just being ok with things. I am ok with when it’s time for things/change it comes. Letting go. Laws of attraction.

What do you feel you have achieved since our coaching relationship began? And how has your perspective changed?

I think clearer and me efficiently. I don’t dwell on things. I don’t let things or others affect me as much. I am not milling over the past. I think I am a better communicator: using the 4 agreements and non-violent communication skills

"Life moves so fast and we often don’t stop to reflect and question, is this where I want to go? I am satisfied/happy with things and the people in my life. Chere is my once a week coach who I can confide in and trust that she will understand. She offers aid in this crazy world making sure that I am living life not just going through the motions. She offers real practical solutions/tips/ guides on finding out what I want, need and how to ask and get what I need. Chere you helped me keep me number one."
—Tyler Copeland

“After reading your recent Taste of Life newsletter, I thought "am I waiting to live?" and my answer was "YES". I realized my life has been lonely and stagnant long enough. Then I had to decide what I was going to do about it and came upon an opportunity I wouldn't have even considered without the article you wrote.

I have signed up to be a volunteer for the Hennepin Theater Trust. I love the productions that come to the theaters, and have been a donor for several years. This year I was not able to contribute. Becoming a volunteer is the perfect alternative - I'll be giving my time and experience to a very worthwhile organization while expanding my personal and social connections.

So "thank you" for coaching me without even knowing it! You are so terrific. What would I ever do without you in my life? Thanks again for all you do to make my life better......I love you to pieces.”

“If you look at what you have in your life, you’ll always have more.
If you look at what you don’t have in life, you’ll never have enough.”
—Oprah Winfrey

Busy Life Stew

How lucky was I when I visited Missy Vogt my old personal trainer after having my mammogram at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia, MN. She is such a good mom and always wants to serve a healthy meal to her 3 kids. This is an adaptation of her beef stew. See if you can taste the secret ingredient – the juice of one orange.

1/2 pound sirloin steak, cubed (notice the small small amount of meat I used)
14.5 ounce can stewed tomatoes, not drained
3 potatoes, peeled and diced
3 carrots, peeled and sliced
juice of 1 orange
2 tsp beef bouillon
2 tsp basil

Combine all ingredients in crock pot. Cook on low for 5 hours. Serve with fresh steamed green beans, and sliced apples. Options: If you really need a 5 ingredient recipe you could omit the bouillon and basil. Sweet potatoes would boost your beta carotene and would be a great idea.

Missy owns Fit-It-In Fitness www.fit-it-infitness.com in Waconia. She does a very VERY affordable boot camp with amazing fat loss results. Over a cup of tea she told me about a client named Ann who went from 56 pounds of fat to 38 pounds of fat and increased her muscle by 14 pounds. That is amazing. I asked Ann about her boot camp experience.

“WOW is all I can say! The word “Boot camp” still scares me, but the results I have seen in the past 15 months is priceless. My body was a mess before I met Ms. Boot camp. Many of us know what a toll having babies can be then with other body ailments on top of that, then add all the stresses of a busy life – UGH! I got fed up with feeling ill every day with all those body ailments; I needed to make a change. Thanks to Missy’s support that change happened. I can actually sleep without medications, have tons more energy, met some amazing women, can see my muscles instead of all jiggle and the best part – I feel confident in my clothes!! I feel like a strong young woman who can face the world head on – THANK YOU MISSY – bring it on!” —Ann

Dear Mom,

I woke up today at 3:33 am with tears in my eyes. Do you cry when you sleep?
I found myself writing this letter to you in the still darkness of my bed. Why is it that the quiet dark of the night versus a sunshiny day can so drastically alter my thoughts?  I rushed into the shower freezing and thinking of  “energy saving Gary” with the heat first going on at 7 am.  I continue to cry as I take a shower thinking of you. I run out of shampoo. I never run out of shampoo (not good for a life balance coach hey mom!) Still crying, I hurried to my computer to capture my thoughts that bubbled up in the darkness of my bedroom.

It has been 5 days since I saw you for your 80th birthday. Again, I wonder if I had not fallen in love with Gary and not moved away from you 27 years ago how different my life would be. I always felt like I “picked” Gary when I moved away but I never really picked as I have kept you tucked in the middle of my heart all these years. For probably 20 years we talked at quarter to eight on Monday and Friday mornings. I used to call you my telephone angel. You were the only one that cared that the homework was hard the night before or what I was going to cook for supper.

Five days…if I close my eyes tight and scrunch up my shoulders I can still feel your hug. Every visit now when I leave, I intentionally hug you extra tight and put your little body in the crevice of my arm, close my eyes and breath in “my mom.”  I have been working extra hard since our visit to remember your hug as you seem to be disappearing in front of my eyes. Since I have seen you my heart actually hurts – a feeling I can not describe.

At Thanksgiving time, people drum up their gratitudes. It is different for me as I really live a thankful life every day. This coaching thing has changed my life. Funny how nothing has changed – same kids, house and husband but every thing has changed. I feel vibrant alive every day and I go to bed without regrets. I try to enjoy the small stuff not sweat the small try. Key word try. This Thanksgiving I realized I just need to focus on you.

The girls had so much fun baking your Chocolate Chiffon birthday cake. Remember how every year you drove the 5 hours even in bad weather to visit for my birthday and baked  ME your cheesecake. Today, I realized you have not done that for years. I tried to remember when was the last birthday cake you made for me. I want to remember and I can’t. If only I would have known “this was the last year” you would come and make me my birthday cake. I would have . . . The best part of your visits were the notes under my pillow. They always started out, “My dearest Cheryl Ann, Thank you for everything...” As soon as your car would leave the driveway I would race to my bedroom to read your note. I have a shoebox of every note you ever wrote. Memories are the gratitude’s of my heart. So many memories.  So many gratitudes.

I pray every day for you mom. I used to pray that you become happy and healthy. I still pray for the healthy part but now pray for you to feel peace. I can not imagine going out of the house only two times in the last seven months. I can not imagine being able to sit in only two places - your bed or the couch as your little legs can not hold your weight. Your body seems to be disappearing in front of my eyes. I know sometimes you want to die as your life has become four walls.  I am mixed up. I want what you want but surely don’t want you to die. I am not ready to be an orphaned daughter.

So, I am focusing on what I have and not on what I don’t have. I am appreciating and savoring the slivers of happy and the slivers of  “not so happy” in my day. The glass can be half full or half empty. I am appreciating that I have a glass. I am appreciating daily the 55 loved filled years from you. You have given me many gifts mom but really the best gift is now. Through your life now and sometimes desire to leave this earth you are gifting me the most sacred gift ever – a heart filled with gratitude that completes the circle of your love for me and my love for you. My heart filled with gratitude restores me and dries up my tears. You have given me the best gift mom, the gift to appreciate my own life. When I get to the end of my life mom, I will be able to say my gifts are used up. I love you mom and plan to see you at Christmas, and for sure your next birthday. I am not ready to be an orphaned daughter.  With love and mixed up tears I write,

Love your first daughter, Cheryl Ann

Meditation on Gratitude
Here is a gratitude meditation I have been doing for my mom.

“Sitting quietly, shift toward dynamic balance with a few minutes of mindful breathing. Bring to mind someone for whom you are deeply grateful. As you breathe in, take this person to heart. Breathing out, let your heartfelt gratitude shine deeply and brightly to them and through them. Continue for as long as you like, letting each breath take to heart a loved one, a friend, someone who has been kind to you, someone who is teaching you patience or how to forgive. Let each breath shine from the depths of your being through the depths of their being in order to light up their life with your love. Taking your eyes, your ears, your hands, your intelligence to heart, bless them in a similar way with the heartfelt radiance of your appreciation. Whoever or whatever comes to mind, gather them into your heart, one at a time or all together. Taking these many gifts to heart, complete and affirm the circle with gratitude, assuring that the stream of blessings in your life and in the universe will be unbroken.”
