Simple Ideas to Stop Waiting to be Happy
Where is Chere Speaking?

  1. Accept responsibility. No one makes you happy but you. (Memorize this! )
  2. Use deliberate creation to create your vision. Ask yourself: What do I want to create today?
  3. Create a list of "hats" you wear for your real life and ideal life.
  4. Create standards (your yeses) for you to “feel right” for your emotional and physical well being.
  5. De-should your life. Notice when situations or people that don’t help you feel whole and in integrity.

Who is responsible for my happiness? (There is a correct answer!!)

Since 1999 I have had a hard time describing what transpires during a coaching session. Coaching is an experiential process as well as an intellectual one. Talking about coaching isn't the same thing as being coached. Click here or call me at 952.937.5697 to reserve your complimentary, no obligation, 30-minute Coaching Session. If you are ready to take action towards obtaining the life you really want this is your first step.

Experience coaching first hand and create an action plan that will help you move forward with your goals and dreams. I guarantee one tip, tool, question or strategy that will give you more energy, balance, focus, happiness or health.

Lifestyle wins: Doing things in moderation, not smoking, having healthy habits, living as the best possible version of myself.

Health wins: Being healthy, being rested, being a good weight, having a good, healthy body/self image and self esteem, knowing and following limits, exercising regularly.

Emotional and Relationship wins: Being happy, being the best friend I can be to my team and other 20 people I have chosen to be in my circle, maintaining good relationships.

Career wins: being asked to help out in the bleeding disorders community, getting job offers, learning new things, pushing myself to always improve, having career goals.

What do you feel you have achieved since our coaching relationship began? And how has your perspective changed? I think I achieved a better sense of self. By that I mean that I understand a little more about myself (from the needs activity, what people have said are my gifts, the people I value the most in my life, etc.) My perspective has changed because I don’t often think too much about myself, because I often put others first.

Which of these were by your own efforts or just seemed to happen? Which were because of me? (e.g. listening, a powerful question, encouragement, advice). The advice and encouragement seemed to just happen naturally as we talked about different things. I think that the realizations I had were because of the way that you said things to me, or inspired me to think about things.

On a scale of 1-10 (1 being minimal, 10 being excellent) how well were you supported by me?
Empathy and understanding 9
Getting to the root cause of the problem 9
Asking questions which made you think 9
Stretching you; helping you to think bigger about yourself 9
Coming up with better ideas/solutions than you would have done on your own 8
Sharing of resources and contacts 10

“Chere really helped me to grow as a person, and was really supportive throughout the entire process. I would recommend her as a life coach to anyone who is in need of a little more direction in their life.” —Shelly M

“I don’t know the key to success, but the key to failure it trying to please everybody.” Bill Crosby

5 Ingredient Quick Chicken Fajitas
We moved Brett from U of Iowa on Sunday for the summer. My favorite part of summer is family dining on the deck. We were lucky this week to have an 90F evening. Felt like summer in May! This recipe is easy, quick, healthy and our family favorite!

1 package (about 1 pound) skinless chicken breasts, sliced into strips
3 peppers, seeded and sliced into strips
(I used 2 green and 1 red)
2 onions, peeled and sliced into small wedges
1 package (1.5 oz) Taco seasoning mix
Vegetable spray

About 4 hours ahead of your dinner hour place chicken strips in a re-closable bag or glass covered dish and sprinkle about 3/4 of the taco seasoning package over the chicken. Refrigerate. Place peppers and onions in a re-closable bag or glass covered dish and sprinkle the remaining taco seasoning over the veggies. Refrigerate.

Over medium heat, spray two non-stick fry pans with vegetable spray. Stir fry chicken in one pan until golden brown, about 15 minutes. Saute the peppers and onions in the other pan about 12 minutes.

Serve in whole wheat tortillas, with taco fixings. We used refried beans, tomatoes, romaine lettuce, shredded cheese, sour cream, and chopped cilantro. Serve with fresh fruit. (We served cantaloupe and watermelon) And don’t forget the warm conversation.

Last month’s ezine on I Should be Happier flooded my in box with questions like “How did she get happy?” I also received countless requests for a presentation on how to be happy. I am “happy” to say I will develop a “happy presentation” for the fall.

"I’ve put my life on hold. I’ve never been so tired! And, today we are having another meeting about nothing. We know there are layoffs coming, but there is nothing they can tell us. For training week last week I am at work by 5:30 – 6 am and get home at 7 pm. I don’t want to work 24/7. And no matter how much I work I am never good enough.”

Are you feeling overwhelmed like Sue, my coaching client? Sometimes obligations can create an overwhelming, unhappy life. Taking a look at the “hats you wear,” or roles you play in life, can be your first step. When I asked Sue what her “hats” were in real life she listed them like this: 1. Slave to yard, house and job; 2. Mom – always there for my boys: 3. Cook – always cooking and then have to clean it all up; 4. Spouse – take care of my darling spouse – (What do you do? Everything, cleaning); 5. Animal caregiver; 6. Take vitamins – I don’t eat good; 7. Rabid reader – read whenever I get the chance after the other stuff is done; 8. Friend; 9. Daughter.

Interesting, like most overwhelmed people who hire me to put some spark back into their life, Sue was missing! Sue stated many times, “All things fade in life because I have made work the most important thing.”

Integrity Check
I suggested to Sue that perhaps she was unhappy was because as she didn’t feel in integrity. Integrity is doing what is right for your physical and emotional well being. She wanted to lose weight. She felt her job didn’t allow her time to exercise as even her off days were spent preparing training presentations. She wanted to spend more time in her garden and wanted to say “yes” to friend when they called instead of “being married to her email” every night.

What Do You Want
We focused on her vision of what she wanted her life to be – “Strong! Strong body, mind and spirit!! Passionate about exercise! Passionate about work!” Whatever you focus your attention on becomes bigger and bolder. If you focus on how terrible your life is; it will be more ridiculously horrible. So write down what you want. Maybe you are not feeling in integrity because “shoulds” and pleasing others have taken over your life.

Put yourself first
The secret to loving a life you want to live is to put yourself first. (Sorry Mom and Dad). This is not about being self–centered and nasty. Rather, it is deliberate creation and using the Law of Attraction to attract the life you love. So, what do you do? First notice if your day is full of wants, like craving M’M’s or wanting to walk outside, or “shoulds,” which are duties or obligations or a sense of shame if you don’t do them.

Write your yes list
Make a list of standards (coaching word for your yes list) for self care habits you want to do to energize your physical and emotional well being. Example: I will eat breakfast. I will go to bed at 10:30 pm. I will schedule a walk in the afternoon. I will not answer the phone after 9 pm (self care time).

Accept responsibility
Finally, accept RESPONSIBILITY for your physical and emotional well-being. No one else can make you happy but you. Only you can give your energy away. You decide to whom and to where your energy goes. Patch up those energy cracks where you are giving your energy away. When you feel whole and living in integrity, you love your life and are even more generous with your time and energy and have more to give away.

Sue’s life is not on hold anymore. Nothing has changed, but everything has changed. She has the same job, spouse and home. What’s different? She’s happy. Every day she consciously thinks about, “getting rid of the junk and keeping the good stuff.” The good stuff is pretty good this week as she vacations with her family in Kauai! Your happy is waiting! With energized abundance.

Here to add value to your life; just let me know how! What are you waiting for? Chere

Where is Cherecoach in the media and speaking?

Kind words from the Organizers of the Minnetonka Hopkins Community Parent Fair:

“Chere had participants at the Minnetonka-Hopkins Community Parent Fair “holding onto their seats” as she delivered a lively early morning keynote address. After the event we heard a lot of comments about “shoulding” and “do it, delegate it, or dump it!” Not only did she bring useful tools to parents that morning, but parents left with a month’s worth of daily homework in the handouts. Chere delivered! It was the perfect opening to our morning of parenting classes. Thank you Chere – your time with us was a gift to all in attendance!”
—Shirley Snyder, Parent Education Program Manager

“Chere, thank you for participating in the annual Minnetonka Hopkins Parent Fair on March 7th! Your keynote was received very enthusiastically. There were approximately 240 participants. The evaluations were resoundingly positive. You were rated “good to excellent” by 97% of the participants regarding information and 98% on organization and presentation skills. Many commented on your humor and the key points they will remember when they go home. I have heard many parents use terminology like “energy charger or drain,” “what’s on your plate” and “shoulding” more so than usual. Your information was pertinent to parents with all ages of children and was appreciated by all attendees. You made a difference in the lives of our local parents."
