Time Rich, or Time Poor — It's Your Choice
Where is Chere Speaking?

  1. When you wake up in the morning, ask yourself, “Who do I want to be today?”
Then, do one little baby step to “be” who you want! Life is baby steps! ALL baby steps.
  2. Let go of perfection. I sometimes wonder if it is a form of procrastination.
  3. Create a list of your top five values and order them in importance. Values, personal needs and tolerations are the first items identified in coaching and create the foundation for who you want to “be.”
  4. Identify the top five people who you want in your time rich life. How many of them do you see each day or each week?
  5. Make a list of your passions and talents and ask yourself, “How often do I use them? When you use them, time flies!

Do I know what my values are?

Since 1999 I have had a hard time describing what transpires during a coaching session. Coaching is an experiential process as well as an intellectual one. Talking about coaching isn't the same thing as being coached. Click here or call me at 952.937.5697 to reserve your complimentary, no obligation, 30-minute Coaching Session. If you are ready to take action towards obtaining the life you really want this is your first step.

Experience coaching first hand and create an action plan that will help you move forward with your goals and dreams. I guarantee one tip, tool, question or strategy that will give you more energy, balance, focus, happiness or health.

My days are full of energizing emails. Here are a few that brought me a smile!

“Thank you Chere for your notes — you made my day go from blah to BLING!!”

“I tried to send you a whiney email last night. Twice I typed it, twice my computer deleted it mysteriously, so I gave up the whining” :)

“Okay Chere, I'm ready for you to move out to California! You are one cool cat. This is embarrassing. I looked at a map of the US the other day (something most Californians never do) and realized how far north Minnesota is!!!! I had some vague notion it was more central. Duh, no wonder you're so cold!

Your emails really picked me up this morning; I was feeling down. I shouldn't be, but I was. I have so much to be grateful for, and you are definitely on the list! Happy day to you,”
—Sizzlin' Suzzzzz

“Happiness, joy, exuberance, hopefulness…all seem to come through cyber space when I talk with you via email! What a “spark of joy” in my day! Thanks for being you!"
—Jeanne Straus, Adult Programs, Minnetonka Community Education

“Values provide you perspective in good times and in bad.”

Turmeric to your oatmeal? Of course!! Turmeric contains curcumin, a powerful antioxidant dubbed “cure-cumin.” Studies show it may help prevent and treat cancer, heart disease, diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, inflammatory bowel disease and arthritis. Up to 12 grams of pure curcumin is non toxic. One tablespoon of turmeric contains π gram of curcumin. Besides your oatmeal, you can add it to Asian, Indian and African dishes, stir-frys and casseroles.

Add to your favorite bowl in the following order:

Blueberries, frozen, no sugar added, about 1/2 cup
Oatmeal flakes, about 1/4 cup
Tumeric, a couple of good shakes
Cinnamon, or brown sugar and cinnamon left from mother-in-law, a couple of good shakes
(Adjust amounts based on how you feel that day.

Allow bowl of goodies to sit (AKA thaw just a bit) while you finish getting ready for work...about 10 minutes. Stir to mix well. The moisture from the thawing blueberries will help the process. Eat, while savoring every bite.

Remember to have some water or juice or coffee to make that oatmeal float comfortably down the GI tract!

Life is a ‘WOW’ lately! In 5 days, I had an ABC TV appearance on KSTP, a radio interview, instructed 3 tele-classes, provided a display at Medtronic’s health fair and joyfully coached my special clients. Yeah to the Law of Attraction!! With a busy week like this I have to stop and tell myself, “Chere you are getting exactly what you wished for.”

I don’t think I have had a busier week since starting my company. Nov 11th was my mom‘s 79th birthday and I was already in Iowa and Chicago that week. How could I possibly “squeeze” in a surprise visit to my mom for her birthday? How do you choose what you do and what you don’t do? How do you decide to stay at work late to complete a project or get home to sit down with your family for a weekday family meal? We are all given the same 24 hours each day 7 days a week. At first I thought I can’t go to see mom on her birthday. And, then I thought to myself, “Chere you are time rich — you have time to go.”

In September, I visited my parents in Milwaukee. As we were leaving and standing by the refrigerator, (everything happens standing by the refrigerator) my mom said to Danielle in a quiet and matter of fact way, “I don’t think I will be seeing you at Christmas.” I said, “Mom is there something you want to tell me?” She looked deeply into my eyes and says, “I love you.” I gazed even deeper into her eyes and with every cell in my body I told my mom, “Mom I love you too.” I could literally see the words traveling from my body to hers…they were the biggest I love you words I ever spoke to my mom in 53 years. My mom started to cry and then slowly walked to the living room. Her spirit, health and resources are diminished. She sees no way out except to die.

You have a choice, just like me. You can decide to be either time rich or time starved. Time starved people have never ending to-do lists. Time rich people also have infinite and never ending to-do lists. Get it done today so you can cross it off and do it again next week. Even when I cross off doing the wash today, I will still have to wash the same clothes next week (Gary really only wears the same 5 t-shirts and I really love to do the wash!) Time rich people don’t focus on trying to manage their time and their clock.

Time rich people have a special secret list that is short and finite. It is their values list. Values are things we hold nearest and dearest to our hearts. When you engage in these activities you feel most like yourself — you feel connected, and excited to get out of bed in the morning. You feel alive and your life feels effortless. We are drawn to our values but often our crazy busy lives do not grant us the chance to DO these things. “I don’t have time.” “I was going to do it sooner.” “Never got the chance to do it.” “It was too late.” “Time ran out.”

My mom was surprised that all 5 of her children were with her for her birthday. All of them live in Milwaukee except for me, so it was a big deal that we were all present. I gave my mom seventy nine brand new dollar bills for her birthday – one dollar for each year. She wrote me a note and handed it to me before I left. “My Dearest Cheryl Ann, How can I thank you for everything that you do for me? I would like to give you all that money back sweetheart. It was much too generous of you. Please ..this will be the last gift from you honey. It will last me all of my life. I am serious. I don’t want anything for Christmas or any other holidays anymore…”

I value my family and connecting with people more than anything in the world. If you orient your life around your values, they act like a filter or screen to things you say yes to and the things you say no to. If you are not sure if you have time for a person or an opportunity, run it by your core values. If it “fits,” then say yes to it and, if not, pass on it and say no. Happy, productive, feeling life satisfied people know their values and create their lives around them. Don’t let time run out — whatever you do — it is more important to DO it than to talk about it or worry about it.

And whatever you do, call your mom and talk to her, whether she is here on earth or in heaven. I bet your mom wants you to be time rich. Remember if you align your days with your values you will get your time and your life back. With gratitude and love, Chere, here to add value to your life…let me know how!
