A Secret to a Successful Life - Appreciation
Where is Chere Speaking?

They say love makes the world around, but what people are really starving for is appreciation. It is the foundation of a successful business, family life, and marriage. It is the balance between giving and receiving. Receive value and show your appreciation. In the business world, you will have increased customer loyalty, and a more dedicated staff. In family life, your home will be more joyful and happy.

  1. Say Thank You.
Anytime someone provides you with value, thank them. Do it verbally, write an email, send a card, leave a voice mail.
  2. Focus on the Positive.
Appreciate what is good when talking to someone, not what is not good. What you focus on becomes bigger and bolder.
  3. Ask How You Can Make Their Day.
Be sincere and you will be surprised at what is needed.
  4. Use Your Gifts To Show Appreciation.
Appreciating others should be easy, not hard. Do you what you do best and people will know that you do care.
  5. Date Your Spouse.
Successful people have a cheerleader supporting them through good times and bad times. Show your spouse you do appreciate them and create a date “just because” you care.

I appreciate John Grotz, Kerry Olson and Barb Prindle for their energy and support for the new www.cherebork.com website that was launched on Saturday! In my presentations I talk about inaction takes more energy than action. I spent more hours thinking about it than the actual time it took to do it! Thank YOU, Kerry, John and Barb!

Who do I need to call today and show my appreciation?

Since 1999 I have had a hard time describing what transpires during a coaching session. Coaching is an experiential process as well as an intellectual one. Talking about coaching isn't the same thing as being coached. Click here or call me at 952.937.5697 to reserve your complimentary, no obligation, 30-minute Coaching Session. If you are ready to take action towards obtaining the life you really want this is your first step.

Experience coaching first hand and create an action plan that will help you move forward with your goals and dreams. I guarantee one tip, tool, question or strategy that will give you more energy, balance, focus, happiness or health.

“Thanks for the coaching last week — even though it was brief. Your energy, confidence and positive spirit reminds me of myself before I fell apart. I am trying to get it back…it’s just taking me a while.”

“Chere, when I started working with you I had DOZENS of goals. I had so many goals I didn’t know where to begin! I still have lots of goals, but I also have lots of focus. Now I have experiential knowledge about how to tackle a big goal. Now that I have had the experience of setting and achieving goals, I am confident that I can tackle anything!

Lifestyle wins: I have a job that doesn’t drain me. I am reading a lot and not just fiction.

Healthstyle wins: I exercise 3 – 4 times a week and it’s much more vigorous than before. I have changed my diet and have already lost 10 pounds. I am much better at breaking down big goals into small manageable tasks.

Emotional and Relationships wins: I focus on MY needs first. As a result, I have MORE energy and love for my family. I’ve started dating again.

I feel DIFFERENT. I feel more effective—more full of energy than I have ever felt. Getting things done is easier now than it has ever been. I never thought in my wildest dreams I would feel this way. Thank you Chere!”

If you want to reduce your risk of cancer, you need to look no further than your kitchen.
A trio of new studies presented at the annual meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research found that vegetables and fruits help lower your chances of getting head and neck, breast, ovarian and pancreatic cancers.

One of the studies even found that just one additional serving of vegetables or fruits could help lower the risk of head and neck cancer. Still, the more fruits and vegetables you can consume, the better.

"Those who ate six servings of fruit and vegetables per 1,000 calories had a 29 percent decreased risk relative to those who had 1.5 servings," said Neal Freedman, a Cancer Prevention Fellow in the division of Cancer Prevention at the National Cancer Institute and author of one of the studies.

This easy recipe is one I prepare often for our evening meal and helps meet The American Institute of Cancer Research recommendation that at least 2/3 of your plate be filled with vegetables, fruit, whole grains and beans. Nothing beats coming home to the aroma of a ready-to-eat dinner. It feels like your mom was there all day cooking for you!

3 to 4 carrots, peeled and cut in half
2 sweet potatoes, peeled and cut in quarters
2 onions, peeled and quartered
1 tsp beef bouillon or vegetable bouillon
1 cup of water
A sprinkle of basil or your favorite herb

Place all the ingredients in your crock pot on low for 6 hours. You can prepare the veggies the evening before and be ready to throw in the crock pot in the morning before work.

Whole green beans, red onions, and small Yukon potatoes are also great!

Serve with grilled salmon (indoor or outdoor grill), steamed broccoli (yes more veggies), a spinach salad, and warm conversation.

The Secret to a Successful Life — Your Attention to Appreciation

Everyone I know wants “success” however they define it. But, have you ever thought of what success means without special friends to enjoy and celebrate life with? I often say, “Relationships oxygenate life,” and who really cares about “the money or the job” if you can’t share it with people you love.

One of the metrics on how we manage from day to day is the way others feel about us. We care when our friends are fine and worry when they are not. We tell people we care by the actions we take. One way I tell people I care and appreciate them is by leaving a singing happy birthday voice mail. I love doing this but LOVE it even more when people call me and sing happy birthday. Several years ago my friend Justine Philllips (whom I met in aqua aerobics class and always came 20 or 30 minutes late and disrupted class EVERY time) called and left me a happy birthday singing voice mail. For two months I played Justine’s deep male-sounding voice singing me happy birthday. I was stumped! It was Justine Phillips! She got me.

Justine happily retired from Carver County and began to teach at a college. She was born to be a teacher as she taught all of us how to live outrageously. Shortly after she “refired” with her new college teaching profession she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She had treatments and a huge bra burning ceremony that was written up in the local paper and she seemed to get better. Recently, I had heard her breast cancer had come back.

I have certain birthday dates set in my Outlook to remind me to call and sing happy birthday. February 4th was Justine’s birthday. I didn’t call. Everyday the reminder came up and everyday I was going to call. I was too busy, or needed to “do it later.”

Justine died on February 16th, without me singing happy birthday! I still have her birthday reminder set in my Outlook. I snoozed. I lost! I lost out on connecting with Justine one last time. When was the last time you let your friends know that you love and care about them? When was the last time you told them why you appreciate them?

Justine held the patent on making a late and grand entrance and she now holds the patent on not taking the next day for granted. Emails and stuff can always wait. So, remember to keep special people close to you before it is too late! My coaching advice for you is to live today to your fullest with no regrets because your tomorrow is not promised.

Appreciating Special People in my Life:

I appreciate each of you! With much gratitude, Chere.
