Where is Chere Speaking?

  1. Take one day this Valentine’s day month and stay in your pjs all day. (Not kidding.) Read a book, watch a DVD, or call a friend. Too big of an action step? Schedule one evening of joy and self care and come home from work and immediately put on your pjs and do nothing but self care.

  2. Take a brown grocery bag and walk around your house and fill it with junky papers, magazines, newspapers and don’t stop until it is filled. Immediately take this out to the garage.

  3. 4 months to summer! Oh yeah! What ONE thing do you wish to accomplish at home? What ONE thing do you wish to accomplish at work so you will have joy time this summer? Do it before June 21st!

  4. Write down the top three stresses in your life right now. How can you eliminate one before spring?

  5. Boycott multi-tasking. Set your timer for 30 minutes and focus on ONE task – no emails, phone calls, no to any interruptions. You will be surprised at how much you get done.

On your drive home ask yourself: What speed do I wish to be on tonight — the accomplishment speed or the joy speed? Figure it out. Call home and tell them. Do it!

Ask yourself how can I go to bed tonight without one regret?

“Since my free coaching session, I painted my back hallway, living room and kitchen fairly quickly and now I am trying to organize more and more so we can begin the basement. I haven't gotten rid of my cherished teddies yet, but hope to soon. One project at time for me. I've been working out more at work on my lunch hours and now my goal this year is to continue to not shop on lunch and stay in to do projects or work out. Thanks so much for all your help” —Jamie C!!

“I purged 95% of my electronic files and organized them. I purged ALL of my Oprah magazines (interesting – got emotional about it a bit - it was a good exercise in “letting go” so that I can practice trusting my own instincts). I am creating the space I need to live the life I’ve envisioned. I want to create a beautiful home and work environment and this is the first step. I am “stepping back,” doing one thing at a time. I’m continuing to work on being OK with not doing it “all.” My new power thought card is “Life is simple and easy: All that I need to know at any given moment is revealed to me. I trust myself and I trust life. All is well.” I used be “I want to do it all NOW!” – now I’m “I want to live life NOW!”

“Thanks Chere, I really enjoy reading your newsletter. I always pick up a new idea. This month I am going to declutter my closet.....10 things out!!” Thanks, Jane

“Here it is, February 5th and I am just opening your Jan 17th email!! I was so excited and thought I need to clean out many junk drawers in my life!!! Saw your free class and my head was making a list of what junk drawers I wanted to get rid of and then I saw the date. Story of my life lately! But I really enjoyed the newsletter and if Gary wants to live here for awhile there is some junk he could clean out!

"You don’t get to choose how you’re going to die. Or when.
You can only decide how you’re going to live now.”
—Joan Baez

Last month’s recipe was for Healthy Fake Potatoes (mashed cauliflower). I received a nice note from my godmother in Milwaukee.

“Dear Chere, as always, your letters are great and appreciated. I was at Linda’s for the week-end and we had mashed cauliflower. It was very good, but I am still a potato gal. I eat cauliflower etc., but mashed potatoes are my thing.” Love, Aunt Doris

Part of my “joy speed” is my dinner club. For over 10 years, I have been part of this group of non-judging, joy-filled ladies. We meet the 3rd Tuesday of every month (not summer months). Something really BIG has to take place for us to miss Dinner Club. Click here if you want the recipe to create a stress-free dinner club for 8 women.

I have never had so many emails, comments at church and at the grocery store from one ezine like the last issue about Cleaning Out the Junk Drawer Of Your Life. Many people wanted to borrow Gary to clean up their messes. Thought you would like to see what Gary is up to next…he is now organizing his basement.

For years Gary had been saying, “Chere you are either on or off.” He was right. I was either “on” and accomplishing or “off” sleeping in my bed (my favorite place in the world)…until I started this “coaching thing.” Back in 2000, my very first life-coach, Mary Ann Edberg, suggested I “do 15 minutes of Chere time” every day. I thought, "what a crazy idea." Of course I have 15 minutes each day where I do as I please. For the past 7 years, I have continued this self-care daily habit. Looking at the clock and doing something for me for 15 minutes each day was odd at first. The first few years, I kept a list on my computer entitled “me time.” Sometimes the day would FLY by (you know this FLYING feeling) and my “15 minute me time” wasn’t done. I would hop in my car and drive around and look at flowers (love gardening), which eventually led to taking pictures and having a little picture album of future flower pots I want to plant. (I also met quite a few people who wondered who the heck I was taking pictures of their flower pots in their yards.)

This “15 minute me time” is what I call my medium speed — where JOY lives. I DO DO DO all day every day and I am “ON,” or what I call my ACCOMPLISHMENT speed. I absolutely delight in what I do and want everyone I know to be happier like me, which means I could do this “coaching thing” (as Gary calls it) 12 hours every day. Then, I am too tired to find my joy speed.

I believe life-balance is 3 speeds. OFF – sleeping, ON – accomplishing and MEDIUM– the JOY SPEED. People know all about the accomplishing speed, like going to college, getting a job and “the house." Having the kids excel at school. Buying “the” car and going on a great spring break vacation. But do you ever think about your joy speed? For a truly enJOYable life, you can’t be on the accomplish speed all the time. The joy speed is living in today, celebrating time with people you cherish, taking your 15 minutes of “me time” every day. Being on the accomplishment speed all the time leads to burnout of your job, an unhappy spouse, kids who beg for more of your time, gaining weight, and feeling like you are never ever done. (Can you feel this??)

When was the last time you enjoyed a day where you were all three speeds? You were “on” and accomplished at home or work. You had 15 minutes of “me time” and you enjoyed your “joy speed” and turned “off” at a decent time and went to bed.

My clients try to use all 3 speeds every day. And, guess what? They show up lovin’ life and attract more possibilities, and attain more of their goals like magic.

My own intention every day is to go to bed with no regrets. No regrets mean I have had time to be on the joy speed and taking that “me time.”

Your joy speed is waiting – you just need to turn it on. Don’t you have 15 minutes? It’s your ONLY life. Start today. Love, Chere, who is getting teary-eyed writing this to you.
