My Clutter Is Ruining My Life

Tina writes:

“My clutter is ruining my life. I just want my house to be complete and uncluttered.  I am tired of the messes everywhere. Have any quick simple ideas Chere?”  The power is in our decisions. And clutter is just not having the nerve to decide.

Five decisions and energy boosters to de-clutter your home

  • Ask yourself: Do I crave space or stuff?
  • Take a paper bag and de-clutter a room by placing ten items in it.
  • Give to a friend or family member or donate. Donate at www.gooddonor.com which is a convenient donation pick up for multiple charities.
  •  Read your mail standing up next to your recycle bin.
  • Immediately place your bills in your bill paying area, your magazines and business mail to read in your read pile and toss the junk mail. Play a game with yourself  to touch each piece of mail only once.
  • Set a timer for ten minutes and organize and de-clutter one area in one room of your house every day.
  •  Just decide to avoid shopping at your favorite stores for one month. It is really hard to decide not to buy surrounded by the lure of new clothes and new things. Out of sight is outta mind.

Good luck! Your everyday decisions create more energy or take it away. How lucky you have the power to decide.  Chere!!

  1. This is just the tool I need today – I am forwarding it to my multi generational family who all live here. I will let you know what evolves. I have made the decision to follow the 5 steps above every day this week. Thank you, Chere. I looked at myself in the mirror this morning and asked “who do you want to be today” A patient loving person was the answer and then when I saw the clutter, I realized what a challenge it was going to be. So, thank you for this very timely tip!

  2. I love these very simply daily steps as well. I have been telling my older widow clients how to de clutter which is very difficult emotionally for them to do. If all of us could just de clutter earlier in our lives, OR better still live with less material “stuff.” Nancy

    1. Thanks Nancy. If ONLY we lived in the present and not in the future or past.
I think mahy of us hold onto to stuff for “someday” and the problem is we have so much stuff we forget.
Or we hang onto stuff with memories even though we don’t use the stuff or wear the stuff anymore. An easy solution is to just take pictures of your stuff..great memories. And remember memories are gratitudes of your heart and you don’t always need a tangible something to re-create that memory. Bottom line..do you want space or stuff?
