Melissa Joy’s Tangy Lime Grilled Beef Top Round Steak
This month I want to highlight Melissa Joy Dobbins, MS, RDN, CDE, an award-winning dietitian, with extensive media experience, who helps you make well-informed healthcare decisions based on facts, not fear!
Melissa loves this recipe, which is certified by the American Heart Association® and proves that you can enjoy lean beef as part of a heart healthy diet. As the Guilt-Free RD® this is the kind of news she loves to spread to help people enjoy their food with health in mind! She also loves this recipe because her husband is the griller in the family and she focuses on rounding out the meal with a tasty veggie and whole grain side dish. She is on the Beef Expert Bureau.

She enjoys weight lifting and all kinds of dancing from ballet to ballroom. As Facebook friends we love her posts of her dancing gracefully with her husband.
She has survived her midlife experiment of competing in events ranging from 5Ks to triathlons.Yay Melissa!
Melissa lives in Chicago with her husband and two children. Here they are on their first Caribbean Cruise.
How do you savor and enjoy your life?
By being present with the people in my life, by dancing (ballet, jazz, modern, ballroom), and by enjoying live music concerts with family and friends.
What is your empowering belief that gets you back in motion again?
At the end of the day, it’s all about people and relationships. If I’m connecting with others and trying to do my best, I can go on and on and on!
Why did you become a registered dietitian?
I wanted to help people make well-informed food and nutrition decisions based on facts, not fear. It’s important to me to help people feel empowered to make meaningful changes in their diet and lifestyle so they can live a full, vibrant life!
What is your theme for the year and why?
This year’s theme is “work less” because my daughter is going off to college in the fall and I want to make the most of our family time together.
What is your advice for someone who wants to get into this field?
Dive in and enjoy! Try to shadow dietitians in a variety of settings – you never know what you’ll learn that could shape your future studies and career options.
What is on your bucket list?
I have what I call a “retro bucket list” – when I do something that I never dreamed of and find joy in it, that experience goes on my list. For example, before I married my husband we went deep sea fishing in Alaska. I’d never even gone fishing before and the first fish I caught was a 25 pound Alaskan King Salmon! We also saw humpback whales and bald eagles.
First fishing trip and catching a 25-pound fish is a once in a lifetime experience! Good for you Melissa!
