Stop Living a Life that Doesn’t Fit…

And Discover an Abundant Life Made Just for You

How often do you get what you want, only to find it just doesn’t feel right? You want a life that fits as well as your favorite jeans — not one that binds, chafes, or just plain bores you. So how do you find a life custom made for you?

Surprisingly, it’s all about what you value. But not what you’ve been told you should value. Not what you think you should value. Not what your parents or mentors value. What you actually value, deep down.

“The Value Finder Can Change Your Life”

I LOVED using Chere’s Value Finder on her website! It was such a meaningful experience to sort through questions to determine my top five values. What I learned is that while I did this exercise a number of years ago using Chere’s value card deck, I didn’t realize my values could change! And did they ever change – I have now listed my values on my mini vision value board and I look at it daily to make sure I am living in alignment with my values where I know I will be at my happiest. The interactive process is helpful and taking time to not only learning my values, but also deciding on actionable goals to help me live my values took it to a whole new level. I especially loved the ideas at the end of the exercise to help me keep my values at the forefront of each day. Without knowing my values, I would have not have the life I have today: where health and family guide my day, I feel productive, and I live with zest to inspire and lead others to leave a legacy they can be proud of!

Why I developed the Value Finder

“I have a good life. Why do I feel so lost and stuck?”

Since 2000, I have coached and lead workshops for many thousands of people. They may ask me to help them find life balance, love, greater job satisfaction, a new career, or a way out of their rut. Whatever goal they bring me, most are driven by a feeling of dissatisfaction that they just can’t sort out.

Many of them have lives that look enviable from the outside. But over and over I hear things like:

“Something is missing!”
“I am just not happy enough”
“I got a new job and it just doesn’t feel right”

My clients have told me this:

“I’ve had a cushy job for the past 6 years. I make so much money, doing very little, working from home, and yet it also sucks the life out of me. I’m so grateful for it, as it has allowed me to work full time to support my 2 little kids  and….Besides supporting my family though, I feel stuck and like I’m wasting my life. I just try to ignore that though, because supporting my kids is my top priority. Plus, It’s a “dream job” and I feel silly for not being 100% in love with it.”

And this:

“I feel like I am just stuck. My youngest started school full time so this year has been about diving back in and re-focusing. My practice has stayed the course. I feel things could be better versus just going through the motions. I feel that there is definitely more inside of me, I have more potential, but feel my thoughts are getting in my way; feeling lost without a focus and feel self- doubt is also getting in the way.”

It quickly became clear to me that people hire life coaches to “do” or “to get.”

But happiness is not based on “doing.” It is based on “being.”

Who are you? What are your personal needs? What are your personal values?

What is inside your heart?
Who do you want to BE?

Be, Do, Have graphic
I need to BE the best I can BE to DO what I need to DO to HAVE what I need to HAVE. It all starts with Being.

As you can see, our values create the foundation for who we want to be.

The Birth of the Value Finder

The problem was, when I asked most people what their values were, they would shyly ask, “You mean like family?” I would say “yes,” but then…silence. It would be really hard for them to come up with even one more value!

It was then I realized there was nothing on the market that really helped my clients identify their values. Sure, there were many lists with hundreds of values. I gave those to my client and they were paralyzed. It was just too overwhelming.

So I set about to create a hands-on card deck that people could use to sort through their values.

I decided to limit the number of values to make the whole process less overwhelming. I combined the top lists from coaching schools and leadership institutes. I also asked 10 experienced coaches for their input. I tested the list with clients and revised and then revised some more until I synthesized it down to 44 top values.

The original Value Finder card deck

I sold hundreds of Value Card Decks and used them with my clients for years. In the process, I gained priceless insights into how people best discover and work with their values. Last year, when I sold my last set, the time seemed ripe to turn the Value Cards into an interactive online tool. It gave me the chance to take all I’ve learned from working with values and create a convenient, cost-effective discovery process for my client and anyone who wants a better-fitting life.

Now is the Time

If you feel out of touch with the deepest part of yourself…

If you have succumbed to what everyone else wants you to do in order to please them…

If you have been living your life on autopilot…

Now is the time. Discover your values. Start living intentionally. Create habits and daily actions that align with your deepest truth. Build a life that fits.

“Thought Provoking!”

The Value Finder was a thought-provoking multi-step exercise that forced me to identify my values in a way that I had never done before. It made me stop and assess myself, my life and how I operate daily. Your videos and examples from your own life were very helpful and it was well done and easy to use.

My values? They are family, health, integrity, freedom and fun. I see many ways I’m doing well: eating well, exercising consistently, finding ways to destress. I treat others fairly, make good choices and do what’s right even when it’s uncomfortable. I spend time with my family and have built my private practice to accommodate a flexible schedule.

I have managed to live fully, but now I need to work on fun! That comes in when I play tennis, go to art shows, musicals and dance performances. I love spin classes, hiking with my son, and soaking up some vit D in Florida with my husband. How great to know that living my values means valuing fun.

“It Works!”

I have done several Values Finder exercises over the years. They spit out a list of values and I was left to debate whether those are really my values or not. They were not of much use to me because I wasn’t sure those were my values.

This one was different. After going through a few dozen questions that got me warmed up to thinking about what is important, I was then asked to choose only five values. It would not let me chose a sixth value, but I could change my choices. I honed my choice down to five that I found to be most important, then evaluated them and wrote a statement about each of them.

I liked this much better. I had no doubt about these being my values because I chose them. I printed it, posted it where I see it multiple times a day and am improving my attending to my most important values.

This is not complicated and it works.

“Inspiring!”

The Value Finder helped me realize my values have changed over the years and I’m committed to live my current top 5 values: Community, Compassion, Family, Fun, and Health.

This weekend, I lived fun and family by taking in the sunshine, going for a spin in my sports car with the top down and enjoying a music show with my Mom.

Just listening to your presentation and talking to you inspired me to “take action” to make my life worth living. I’m glad I did. Thank you!
