Would You Rather…?
Would you rather eat Brussels sprouts or walk on a treadmill?
I am the only one in my family who would happily eat Brussels sprouts over exercise. Sadly, as a Dietitian mom I have seen my family actually gag when I served them.
Maybe you have created healthy changes in your diet, like even learning how to eat Bbussels sprouts because you heard they were good for you. Great! Scientists are saying it is becoming crystal clear that we can no longer neglect exercise to reduce our risk of the three biggies – cancer, heart disease and diabetes.
So, if you thought this was the spring you were going to finally move your butt and have not started yet – no worries, these tips will get you moving.

Focus on energy not exercise.
Tired? Are you in luck! The number one energy booster is exercise. The good news is you don’t have to exercise for very long. A ten minute walk will boost your energy for one to two hours afterward. Walk 10 minutes on your lunch hour or around your yard. “I want energy” sounds a lot better than “I need to exercise!” The most productive people I know (including my bridegroom) move their bodies on a daily basis and fully embrace life!

Work with your personality.
You don’t have to run on a treadmill for 30 minutes 5 days a week. If you love TV, tune into your favorite show and do the stationary bike. Do you love being outside? Take a walk or bike ride with a friend. Love talking on the phone, grab your phone and take a walk in your neighborhood. Exercise should not be work, but it should work for you

I like the “I want energy” mantra. I think I’ll change my way of thinking on that and say, “I’m going to get energy now,” when I’m going to exercise. I have to say though, that it looks odd when people are walking (for exercise) and talking on their cell phone. And for safety reasons, unless you have a bluetooth, I’d not recommend it.
Hey Michele! I agree when I see people walking and talking on their cell phones..you wonder.
I see people talking on their cell phones when they are working out on the eliptical..that seems kinda challenging
but the MOST challenging exercise experience I EVER saw was a woman eating an apple while she was on the Nordic
Trac..imagine that! ”
My sister Michele would say bravo …your name is spelled the right way!
Chere!!!
