As the size of the plate increases, so does the amount of food we usually scoop onto them. And, we tend to eat all the food we serve ourselves. We eat 22% more food with a 12 inch plate. Smaller plate sizes make smaller portions look bigger. Studies show that 9 ½ inches is a great plate size but don’t go too small. When the plate gets too small we overcompensate and serve ourselves a second portion.
