Snack Round Up from my Dietitian Nutritionist Friends – February is National Snack Month
Who doesn’t love a snack! And the right snacks are really good for us. Snacks really do help us maintain our weight and keep us from getting fat.
According to a recent study in Scotland, eating snacks helps you control both your appetite and your weight, because when you don’t arrive at the table starving, you’re less likely to speed-eat, overeat, or just sit there mindlessly emptying the bread basket. (I have done them all!) Homemade snacks are easier than you think and of course much healthier for you. Check out my favorite snack ideas from my dietitian friends.

Indian Spiced Roasted Chickpeas

Make a batch of these protein packed snacks! Faye says they are a great evening snacks and perfect for road trips too.
Elizabeth Ann Shaw, MS RD, CLT

Adding popcorn to your snack mix helps you meet your fiber requirements. Elizabeth suggests we prepare this homemade delicious easy fiber goodness without the questionable ingredients and trans fat of microwaved popcorn.

Maple and Chia Roasted Pecans and Walnuts

Who doesn’t love candied nuts? Kelly’s recipe with the addition of walnuts and chia seeds, is an omega 3 powerhouse and yummy goodness too.
Jessica Fishman Levinson MS, RDN, CDN

Jessica says these Veggie & Bean Quinoa Bites are packed with protein from quinoa, chickpeas, eggs, and cheese and full of nutrients from a colorful array of vegetables! Store them in an airtight container or freeze for a quick lunch or snack.
What snacks do you make? We can’t wait to hear!
