Seven Causes of Why Your Goals Fail

Too many goals and ideas: Goals take your attention and need focus. Focus on a big goal for your career, home life and personal life and break them down. Too many goals leads to nothing getting done and losing our confidence

Your goals are dead goals:If your goals are a year old they are dead goals not “alive” goals. Your goals should put kick in your step… and you want to do them. Energize yourself by bolding crossing them off your list with a big fat magic marker or tearing them up

You have too many distractions: Focus on the power of one hour. For one hour work on your goal and eliminate the distractions of emails, phone calls,  Facebook , your challenges with your friends and family, etc. Turn it all off and focus on one goal for 60 minutes. Don’t forget to celebrate!

You don’t have standards: Standards are what you say yes to in life. Create standards for your personal, home and career life. Not sure where to start look at people you admire and create a list of their top qualities. What habits do you need to put in place? Examples: I work out 3 days a week. I get to bed by 10:30 pm. I have a daily power hour from 8 am to 9 am.

You are a perfectionist: Perfectionism can keep you stuck .Let go of the baby details. Give yourself credit for getting it done. Mark LeBlanc with Small Business Success  reminds us, “Done is better than perfect.”

You focus on time not energy: You only have 24 hours in a day. Time is finite and energy is infinite. Decide to work on your goals when your energy is best. Quit multitasking as it is the number one enemy of energy and getting your goals done.

You procrastinate: Explore the type of procrastination. Destructive procrastination is where if you don’t do it you will experience major, serious consequences. Constructive procrastination is where perhaps it is the wrong goal, not the right time to do the goal or you don’t have all the information you need.  There are only three choices, Do it, dump it or delegate it.

Did I already mention done is better than perfect!  Nothing feels better than crossing off your to do list. Better get busy! We would love to hear what goal you had  trouble with  and what did you do to get it done?
