AN UNPERFECT LIFE IS SIMPLY PERFECT

The vase of tulips last week brought us the hope of spring into summer. All was “perfect” until the tulips started to droop over the vase in random fashion. The tulips went from perfect to un-perfect. As I was taking a picture of the vase, Brett said, “Get rid of that one droopy one.” The flower wasn’t dead it just had a mind of it’s own. I stopped and realized the tulips represented my “old” and “new” life. And I actually liked the random tulip arrangement better; my new life.

We live in a world of get it done yesterdays, filled with giant to-do-lists and worse yet, other people’s expectations. And to top it off, we need to do it all just perfect. Perfectionism can inspire us to be our best or create a sense of poor self-esteem that we never measure up or are good enough. I sometimes think it should be illegal.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Are these tulips perfect or imperfect?

  1. Do you spend too much time trying to get things “just right?”
  2. Does taking time off to rest, relax, or have fun make you feel guilty that you can’t enjoy yourself?

  5. Do you have a hard time accepting help or delegating because you’re convinced that no one can do something as well as you can?
  6. Do you often feel afraid that you’ll never live up to the standards you imagine others set for you?
  7. Do you often procrastinate on completing tasks because of the pressure you feel to do them perfectly?

TASTE LIFE BALANCE RECIPE OF THE MONTH

ROASTED ASPARAGUS WITH BALSAMIC BROWN BUTTER AND RAISINS

Once you make this sauce you will want to eat it with a spoon! I did!!

What do California Raisins, balsamic vinegar and butter make? Heaven!

If you are looking for a quick easy recipe to help you eat more fruits and veggies, try this sauce over asparagus.

  • 1 pound asparagus spears, trimmed
  • Cooking spray
  • 1/8 teaspoon kosher salt
  • Black pepper; to taste
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon low sodium soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1 cup California raisins

Diana Pierce and I showed KARE 11 viewers how easy it is to increase your fruits and veggies with Roasted Asparagus with Balsamic Brown Butter and Raisins

Preheat oven to 400F. Arrange asparagus in a single layer in glass baking pan; coat with cooking spray. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Bake at 400F for 12 minutes or until tender. Meanwhile, melt butter in small skillet over medium heat; cook for 3 minutes or until lightly browned, shaking pan occasionally. Remove from heat; stir in soy sauce, vinegar and raisins.

Nutrition: Calories 100; Total Fat 2gm ; Cholesterol 5mg; Protein 2gm; Carbohydrates 19gm; Fiber 3gm; Iron 1mg; Sodium 75mg; Calcium 24mg

Where is Chere savoring life?

Savoring is a quality that happy people naturally have in abundance.

Savoring = to mindfully engage in thoughts or behaviors that heighten the effect of positive events on positive feelings. There are 3 temporal forms of Savoring: (1) Anticipatory (2) In the Moment and (3) Reminiscent. We can savor a positive event before it happens by getting excited in preparation for it, we can savor the positive event as it event as it occurs and we can savor a positive event by remembering it. What are you savoring today?
