5 STEPS TO FREEDOM-BASED THINKING

  1. Know what you want.
  2. Notice your thoughts…are they focused on what you want or what you don’t want?
    Every minute you invest your thoughts about what you don’t want, you are creating exactly that.
  3. Remove doubt. Focus on the want and “how” will naturally happen.
  4. Give what you want, energy, focus and attention (collage, sign, I statement like I will have…).
  5. Allow it to happen.

What brought you to coaching?
My initial goals were to reduce the stress in my life and gain a more balanced life. These goals did change as we worked together. With your help, balance really started to come together in my life. That resulted in some life changing decisions, especially the decision to change jobs. And all of that reduced my stress! It has made me a person that can spend more time in the present instead of worrying about the past and future. WOW! My focus on listening in taking the living in the present idea a step farther, refining it, turning it more internal. These coaching years have been like building a pyramid. With a solid foundation, I am able to constantly enhance my life to be more focused and centered on the present – reaching for the point of the pyramid

What do you consider your wins?
-Lifestyle wins – I am more in the present, less stressed, happier with my life balance.
-Health wins – I am more in tune to my diet. I better understand what my family should be eating to be healthy.
-Emotional and Relationship wins – I am less stressed, which has allowed me to tune into my family and friends. My circle has grown dramatically, full of people who share my values.
-Career wins – I left a job that I hated with a company that I didn’t believe cared about me to work at a place that is full of opportunity, challenges me, and cares that I am a person with a family.

Memories of September 11

I remember the day JFK was shot. I was in 2nd grade and my parochial school was let out early. I raced home and remember sitting on my mom’s warm dryer as she tried to erase the fears of the President of the United States being shot. Fast forward to Sept 11, 2001, when I tried to explain the attack on America to Brett, my seventh grader, and Danielle, my tenth grader. We all remember where we were the day our world changed. I made Danielle and Brett record their thoughts of this tragic day. Visit my blog to read their thoughts.

My day started out routinely with working out. Going into the locker room I was surprised to see a silent gathering of women around the TV watching the first tower explode. The day felt like it had stopped…like we were suspended…fearful of what would happen next. The words “attack on America” didn’t feel right. Fear. Big time fear.

Around 2pm that afternoon I received a call from the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce telling me our family had won the All Expense Paid Weekend Alexandria Getaway. I remember telling the woman it didn’t feel right to win anything that day. She assured me she had pulled my name on Saturday. After studying the Law of Attraction for the past ten years I really feel I am lucky and always enter contests and win often. I attract luck which boosts my self confidence and that makes my life sing.

Gary and I ordered broiled walleye, Brett first time he ordered Cajun food – pork chops and Danielle had rotisserie chicken. How do I know this? Remember I am a foodie, obsessed with food, and keep a food travel journal.


fear or freedom?

Self confidence is something only you can give to yourself. It all starts with your beliefs and your self talk. There are two kinds of thinkers – fear or freedom.

Fear based thinkers
“I am not good enough.” “I will never win.” “I will be happy when ____." My favorite one is "I will be happy when my boss leaves.” They focus on the struggle or feeling that they have to overcome something and almost focus less on the accomplishment of their goal. We love to achieve goals but did your struggle to get there exhaust you and leave you totally fried? Fear and struggle is overrated.

Freedom based thinkers

“I’m not sure where this next job is going to lead but I know it is the right step on my journey.” “I had a hard day but it is only one day and I have lots of blessings.” Maybe you know someone who always seems optimistic, cheerful and doesn’t let stuff bother them. They love who they are and focus on being their best and know that every day is a new day to start fresh. They make life look easy and it seems they have luck on their side.

How do you get from fear to freedom? You make the decision that you already have an abundance of everything you need. You feel you are whole, resourceful and creative. You view life as a journey not a destination. You may say, but Chere I don’t have everything I need. I will say, “But what you have right now is all you got so you better get busy.” Focus on who you want to become NOT overcome. You have to be enough before you are MORE.

Think of something you wanted like a job or new car or possession. Maybe you believed you couldn’t have it or it would be a struggle to get it. “It will be hard to do or hard to get.” Your beliefs became your reality. When your self talk is fear based of course you will not get it.

When you change your beliefs based on freedom and make the decision you have everything you need to get what you want, you will receive it. As Napolean Hill states, “Conceive the idea. Believe you can do it. Achieve. “ Simple as that!

TASTE LIFE BALANCE RECIPE OF THE MONTH

Easy Delish Pesto

This summer I have enjoyed my herbs more than ever as we stayed home most weekends.

Basil is my favorite herb and I spiced up my evening green salads with basil leaves or a chiffonade of basil. I have also added finely chopped basil to soft butter and used it on corn on the cob.

Pesto is an easy way to use up the rest of your basil in your garden and if you freeze it for later use, it reminds you of your savory summer. This recipe takes about 20 minutes from start to finish.

3 cups packed fresh basil leaves
5 cloves garlic
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
1/4 cup pine nuts

Optional Chopped parsley

Combine basil, garlic, Parmesan cheese, olive oil and nuts in the bowl of a food processor. Blend to a smooth paste. If you don’t have three cups of basil substitute some chopped parsley. My basil suffered a blight this year and I did not even have three cups left at the end of the season.  So, I subbed in about cup parsley and actually enjoyed the flavor more than all basil pesto.

I like to serve pesto with my favorite 3 ingredient salmon recipe and a fruit salad.

Serves  4.

I used regular pine nuts which are about $19.99 per pound. Organic pine nuts are $29.99 per pound.  My favorite place to buy pine nuts is in Honolulu at the Aloha Stadium Flea Market on Saturday. I used to get bag of pine nuts for a couple of dollars. Sweet! Airfare these days to Honolulu would really boost the price of this dish today! You can also sub in walnuts which would be much more economical!

Savoring is a quality that happy people naturally have in abundance.

Savoring = to mindfully engage in thoughts or behaviors that heighten the effect of positive events on positive feelings. There are 3 temporal forms of Savoring: (1) Anticipatory (2) In the Moment and (3) Reminiscent. We can savor a positive event before it happens by getting excited in preparation for it, we can savor the positive event as it event as it occurs and we can savor a positive event by remembering it. What are you savoring today?

On 9/11 Gary and I stopped by to help celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Eden Prairie Lemonade Stand.
Sue Donkersgoed, a mom in Eden Prairie organized a lemonade and chocolate chip cookie stand on Sept 11, 2001. They raised $1,100 in two hours. The Olympic Hills 9/11 Lemonade Stand continues and raises $400 to $1100 annually with money sent to 911 organizations. Mrs Weide was the mother of Sue’s best friend growing up in Aberdeen, SD.
