Want fun? Join the Best Summer Ever Club

group

Every day is a gift full of little stuff. Unfortunately most of the time we are moving at such a busy, frantic 24/7 pace to get things done, that we feel we are always behind and are too busy to notice the little stuff. “I will get outside tomorrow after I get this stuff done.” What if you enjoyed every single summer day like you did when you were a kid?

Remember your carefree fun filled summer days and even more savory nights where you stayed out late and watching the dragon flies and begging your mom to stay outside “another minute.” You are in luck. You can enjoy this again because the way to predict your future is to create it. You are invited to join the Best Summer of Your Life Club. Club membership involves five rules.

dragging

First, make the decision that this will be the best summer of your life.

Your to do list will never be done and your house will never be perfect. You own the power to decide; the choice is yours.

Second, create your summer wish list of activities, places you wish to visit and people you want to hang out with.

An easy way to start is with the end in mind. Remember when you were a kid and the first week of school you had to write a report on how you spent your summer vacation. Pretend it is Labor Day and someone is asking you how you spent your summer vacation. What would you want to include? What have you done every single summer for the “sake of tradition” and do not want to include?

IMG_7661

Third, narrow your list down to 14 activities as there are 14 weeks between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

It does not have to be big stuff. I want to hike, bike or kayak every weekend I am in Minneapolis this summer. And, I want to visit Austin, Minnesota and finally see the Spam Museum and of course want to camp one time in Gary’s baby camper. And we can’t forget Raspberry Truffle custard on Sunday nights at Adele’s Frozen Custard Stand.

Fourth, print your list and post it on your fridge. Without a visual reminder we tend to forget our best intentions.

Fifth, share your list with your spouse, partner or friend. Better yet, create your lists with them.

Tell them you are intentionally living the best summer of your life.

Summer is the time to enjoy the little things. Every year as I get older I realize the little things in life were really the big things. Who and what is important in YOUR life today? How do you honor that today? How lucky you are a grown up and no one has to tell you to come in when the street lights come on. You are in charge of your free time. You can predict your best summer of your life by creating it!

Summer 06 009

Let me know if you want to join the Best Summer Ever Club. Encouragement will be sent out the first of June, July and August to help you create your best summer ever!

Remember the best things in life are not things!

      Need to look at dates!
      Warmly always, Chere

    1. Yes yes yes you are in the special club!
BUT maybe for more fun and the most special summer ever you may need to leave your laptop at work on Friday
does that sound daunting or doable?
      Chere

  2. I am in your club. I want to play more golf, spend time with my grandchildren, family and friends and do some gardening while I make time for work. Love your mail and your spirit. Gita

    1. Gita sounds great
hope you grow something you have never grown before

    1. Good Sarah! think of a few must dos and you can post them on this blog for accountability!
Going to Lake Harriet Bandshell and hopefully will see Lynda Enright there!

  3. I’m definitely interested in joining! There are so many things I want to do and we always create our summer “wish list” but this is inspiring me to take it a step further – a step better! We have plans for fun family trips, bike rides, botanic garden trips, etc. – but I want to plan for more downtime like actually reading a BOOK and going to the pool to relax, and of course – more dance classes. Unplug!

    1. Welcome to the Club Melissa JOY! Yes to taking time for nothing scheduled so you can be spontaneous this summer and EVEN read two books! Don’t forget naps!

  4. Sure! I’ll join. Sounds like a positive club 🙂

Stay mindful during play times with the kids, enjoy and appreciate nature each day, and intentionally spend planned time on work each day. Just took a big family trip, but definitely fishing, kayaking, tenting, and bonfires are all on my list and the Peace Gardens. I live very close and have never been there.

    1. Brenna glad you are in theeee Club! Enjoyment and accomplishment go hand in hand even in the summer! Your lists sounds like you love the outdoors! Beautiful just like you!

  5. Count me in!
I have a new stand-up paddle board (SUP) and I have used other boards in lakes, a river and a bay. I want to bring my new SUP in the ocean this summer and survive.
Last summer was my last one in my 40s and I trained for a 5K that took place on my 50th birthday weekend. (I am NOT a runner!) This year I’d like to do it again.
I’d also LOVE to have at least one social gathering at my home per week and include NEW friends from our summer location.

    – Danielle Aberman

    1. How fun and how courageous Danielle! Have kayaked in the Great Lakes and did not love the wave action. Ocean = big waves! Congratulations on pushing yourself! Your only limit is your desire!

  6. I LOVE the idea of the BEST Summer EVER club!!!! I have lots of things I want to do but the most important is scheduling a long weekend with my husband so we have a little down time amongst a summer of intense training/racing. Other fun things I want to do are go to the beach more often this summer since we are surrounded by several and try a new local brewery (we have so many now). I do look forward to some downtime while my husband is racing out of town…the hard part for me is make it DOWNTIME and not fill it with “Yeses” to things I may not want to really do. Lastly….I’m looking forward to continuing to work on my goals on becoming an entrepreneur over the summer because once summer is over it only means I’m one step closer to being my own boss and fulfilling my passions to help others!!!! Yay to Summer!

    1. You are in the Club Kathleen!
maybe the down time is “YES” to Kathleen!
how about planned spontaneity! ever hear of that ? Works like a charm!
      Yay to summer! Chere

  7. I’m in! After a great bday weekend, I’m ready for more summer fun. I want to take my pup, Honor, to the beach again – so much fun! I’m currently researching dog-friendly spots nearby. I am cutting my list down to 14 things – some big (train for and actually sign-up for a 5K) and some small (take the nieces out for ice cream). Looking forward to an enjoyable and rewarding summer!

and gorgeous sand beach — we should meet there sometime!!!

  9. I am in – love it! Scrapbooking every weekend I am home, seeing 2 movies at the theater (it’s HOT), going to Sedona to hike, having friends for dinner, don’t judge but I don’t eat many sweets (I am a cookie monster in remission) and I want to bake a carrot cake, cookies x 2 and make homemade ice cream – I guess the neighbors will love me 🙂 SUP paddle board in AZ, lots of pool time on Sunday’s and evening bike rides at least 3 times – FUN FUN out of the SUN

    1. I love your SMART summer goals they will make your summer sizzle! I am so happy you are living with intention. Welcome to the Club Liz!

  10. Love this! I’m in! I bought tickets for my kids to ride Thomas the Train in Duluth, and for my son and I to see the play Annie. I’d also like to do a picnic with my family and take them to ride the trolley at Lake Harriet. For myself, I’d like to finally finish my book that I keep restarting! Might as well do that while getting a pedicure. 😉

  17. Happy Summer! June 20th! We are finally at our summer home near family. We have only been here for a few days and had 2 parties. We havent even had time to unpack! Yesterday, I tried to rescue a runaway jetski with my kayak but it was too windy. The jetski broke loose from a neighbor’s dock and they are away! I’ll get a crew to rescue it today. I have more kayak and SUP board adventures planned as I have LOTS of overnight guests coming from now until 7/11. My daughter and neices have been having a great time catching blue claw crabs, playing in the kayaks and swimming. It’s going to be the Best Summer Ever!

    1. Hi Dazzlin Danielle sounds like fun fun fun. My little kayak and I would never attempt rescuing a jet ski! You painted a great picture. Send me some pictures of crabbing for the July blog post ..no rush..happy longest day of summer!!!

I do not want to waste these precious days, keep me in the best summer ever loop!

  20. A bit late but I’m in. Aiming for 10 items due to the late start. The first item is: write my best summer ever list, pulling a few from my best year ever list. 🙂

    1. You are in thee club Gerri!! Summer is just starting! With this glorious weather today would be perfect for a bike ride!!!

  21. I am really impressed with all your friends and clients who have shared their desires to get accomplished in their Best Summer Ever Club. For some reason I hadn’t see this before, so with summer already underway, I will get busy to write out my list.

Yesterday I just completed one of my yearly late June goals of flying to Denver to support my daughter (who has Multiple Sclerosis along with her older brother), and rode with her youngest brother and daughter in their goal to participate in the 150 Bike MS ride from Denver to Ft. Collins and back again the next day. Even being a young 83.5 years old, I will not guilt myself that I wasn’t involved in the ride itself but have made the effort each year to get myself away from my real estate business to just visit with them and the other 2 grandchildren and spouses before, during, and after the race at the finish line. That was five days out of town and a relaxing time inspite of the mid 90 degrees. I also “turned over to God” my former worries about their safety and ability to make the ride among the 3,000 participants. God Bless them All.

    1. You are IN THEE club sparkly Nancy! You are 83.5 years young!~ Relationships oxygenate life!!! Nothing like the MS Ride and supporting those you treasure most! Thanks for sharing!!! God Bless YOU too Nancy!

  22. Add me late to the club.

    Here are my wishes:

    1. At least 3 summer music in the park nights.
    2. Use my state park sticker at the beaches with Meko (miniature Australian Shepherd with me) at least 2 times per month.
    3. Reward myself with a corn on the cobb, BLT with heirloom tomatoes and bakery toasted bread at the end of each month from my Whole 30 Diet.
    4. Go to the Farmer’s Market each week – and sometimes get flowers!!!
    5. Visit relatives in Michigan and swim with the kids in the pool.
    6. Tubing down the Wolf River with Meko and friends this July 4th weekend.

Thanks for inspiring me to make the commitment and feel accomplishment.

    Sunny salutations – Beth

    1. Beth, you are IN THEE CLUB~~~ My mouth waters thinking of you eating bakery toasted bread like my gram Lily used to make!! Take some pictures and send to me and we will do a few blog posts of best summer ever
Creating a list creates accomplishment and JOY with intention and nothing tastes as good!! Warmly Chere thanks for writing

  23. I am having the Best Summer Ever!
We have only been at our summer place for just over 2 weeks and we have really packed in a great deal. I have not unpacked my suitcase as it has been so busy and during the lulls I’m choosing fun or relaxation over the mystery of what clothing is in my suitcase. I had to open it last night as I needed something a bit more patriotic than what I had been wearing for 2 weeks.

My first group of visitors left Sunday (here for 10 days!) and my next group is coming this afternoon and staying for 6 days! Normally, I’d be more stressed but the GORGEOUS weather, bay breezes and caliber of my guests has been fantastic.
The bay breeze has been a bit too strong for kayaking much but we have been able to get out quite a few times. Yesterday morning, the water was like glass and my 7 yr old did most of the work on our stand-up paddleboard while I enjoyed the ride. We have wonderful “neighbors” at the marina across the way and they have been letting us use their jetski! I think we are going to buy our own soon so we can explore more.
I hope to be back soon with another update on this best summer ever!
    Danielle

    1. Sounds like a Dazzlin Summer Danielle! I agree with wind and kayaking..and especially paddle boarding can make the difference between a joy ride and a drudgery ride…email me some pictures for the next Best Summer Ever Blog post !
      yes to another update
      Chere

  24. I am starting this right now! I have done a few things on a mental list I have created for the summer. It is the summer of saying yes to being with great people and doing great things together. Wonderful idea!

    1. Anneeee you are in theee Best club ever! post a few ideas on this blog to inspire others and send me a picture of your best summer for our August Blog post
next best summer blog post will be next week! Cheerfully Chere

      1. So far, I am enjoying the best summer ever! I recently went to Colorado with my mom for a family wedding, went boating with one of why closest girlfriends Brenda to celebrate her birthday and played piano outside on a warm summer night.

For the rest of my best summer ever:

I am going to San Diego with a friend of mine to play on the beach and eat yummy food.
I am going to have breakfast in bed every weekend in August.
I am going to make sun tea and read a book on my patio.
I am going to make time for a evening sunset walk, once a week.
I am going to listen to live music at least 2 times before summer is over.
I am going to play golf with a light heart and calm mind.
I am going to spend as much time with family as possible.

I know I will be adding more!

        1. Wow a sunset walk once a week..what a great idea! NOticed the sun is setting a bit earlier each week..so we must savor what we’ve got hey!
Breakfast in BED!! all golfers need a light heart..love your list..welcome to the club sweet Anne!

          1. San Diego is lovely any time of the year! Room service feels royal like Anne!! good for you! Cheerfully Chere

  25. My summer continues as The Best Summer Ever! We are back in our home in Pennsylvania for one overnight to pick-up our daughter’s bestie and bring her to our summer place for a few days. I can’t wait to get back as we bought a boat a few days ago so we have a new hobby and family adventures.
We went on an unplanned trip to Park City for a long weekend and it was fantastic! We enjoyed climbing and zip-line adventures and I was reminded of my fear of heights on the chair lifts… but I made it through without a full panic attack. We went 4-wheeling at almost 10k feet and got caught in a brief hail storm. The storm actually was fun and added to the day.
I can’t believe it’s August 15th. I have a lot to cram into the final weeks and days before school starts. I’ll send pics, Chere.

    1. Park City is so fun in the summer..I think more fun than in the winter! You have three weeks..and official end of summer is Sept 21st right!
happy you are so abundant in living your life FULLY! With joy as I type!
      Chere
