HOLIDAY JOY JUICE – GIVING THE TWO MOST ENERGIZING WORDS

Needing some holiday cheer that’s calorie free, inexpensive and sweat free? Exercise is the number one energizer but darn you have to sweat to get it. Its two words. Two simple words that everyone loves to hear. What are they? T-H-A-N-K-Y-O-U!

Have you ever noticed that when you appreciate someone they seem to blossom
right in front of your eyes? Think of someone who has really appreciated you. Didn’t it feel like with their appreciation the world was full of more possibilities and less challenges? Appreciation appreciates. What you focus on gets bigger and bolder. If you focus on fear you will get more lack. If you focus on possibilities you will receive more abundance. Abundance leads to more happiness.

For decades, psychology has focused on moving people from anxiety and depression to reaching that –0-point where they can contribute to society again. About 10 years ago, Dr. Martin Seligman challenged the profession and said people were not reaching their full potential if they settle for getting to zero. He said the question is not, “Am I happy? But, “How can I be happier?” He called this the happiness quotient.

Research has shown that grateful people are happier, and have more energy. They are also less likely to experience depression, anxiety, loneliness, and envy. Expressing gratitude can start with a thank you like this note to Gary I found under a stack of papers in the office 2 days ago, “Thanks for the miles Ironman. I really appreciate your support and friendship Gary. You are a wonderful mentor and now I am proud to say, “Gary Bork..you are an Ironman!” TT (Tim Thoma competed in the Ironman race with Gary and Mark Ambrosen.)

Research shows that expressing gratitude has a really short term effect, only several weeks. However, the research also shows that people who practice gratitude or make it a habit are happier than those who don’t make a habit of expressing their gratitude.

Your call to action: First, express your appreciation to others and actually tell them what you value about them, and what you were grateful for or how you appreciated something they did for you. Second, start a gratitude journal. I bet you have heard on Oprah to write gratitudes daily, however some of the research suggests weekly is better. Maybe weekly is better because if you do it everyday it becomes routine. Just do it once a day or once a week — review who you are grateful for, how you appreciated what they did, or what you appreciated in your life. I usually write three a day.

This Christmas, BE HAPPIER by giving the gift of happy appreciation. And remember, when you are wrapped up only in your self, you are really a small package compared to the big gifts you can gift others! Thanks for being born! Wishing you happy holiday joy! Here to add value to your life like you have to mine! Love, Chere

Thank you for being born birthday celebrations!

  1. Chere: Your latest letter from your Mother with the help of Janie Jasin brought more flowing tears as I read it. Janie is such a wonderful human being and capable of really connecting with people (such as your Mother) whatever their thoughts might be.

Janie’s daughter, Janet Jasin Quarberg has been one of my son, Gardner’s, and my daughter, Lane’s best friends when they were in high school. They even traveled to each other’s weddings from far away locations. Janie and Janet are special people so it was no surprise to me to read that special letter.

I am currently spending the holidays in Steamboat Springs, CO. with Lane’s family and teaching alpine skiing in my 42nd year of teaching part time as a certified Professional Ski Instructor. Many years ago I announced to a large audience of Realtors and Lenders at a seminar when we were talking about goals that I would be teaching downhill skiing until I was 80. I’ll be having my 77th birthday on Dec. 19th, so I’m feeling good about getting close to my goal.

I’ll be back in the Twin Cities Jan. 6th to continue serving my Real Estate clients, as I have done for the past 31 years. I keep in touch with them while I’m away as well.

It’s now 180 days ice cream free and still miss it.

I hope your family has a very blessed holiday season. Your Taste Life Letter is wonderful and always full of wisdom. God Bless. Nancy

  2. Thanks Chere for all your inspiring words! I love the idea of just sitting for 15 minutes & taking it all in!!
Just wanted to give you an update on my life: Still have 2 houses, but are managing & hopeful that we’ll be able to sell it in the Spring. I would just love to get one of those designing shows to stop by & fix up the kitchen, so I’m going to start writing letters- Let me know if you have any connections!!! In the past year, I did get a much needed raise at work & an additional side job of teaching a class at the local community college- That was a first-time (very scary) experience, but I lived & learned through it & now they are asking me back to teach 2 classes this next semester, so I am very pleased & feel that this will be a very good thing for me!! Still struggling with my weight, but am determined to get healthier by the time I turn 50 which is in just 4 months! (Still working thru that reality!) Well, I just wanted to take a moment & wish you a very Happy Holiday! Oh, I am also pursuing building my business with Neways as an independent distributor- Neways is a company dedicated to Healthy Homes by providing a variety of heath & wellness products with no harmful chemicals added. Check out my website at http://www.ineways.com/geanderson & let me know if you would be interested in finding out more or know of anyone looking to start their own business. I truly appreciated your coaching & helping me get unstuck!
